    Flintlock Builders?

    Any here?

My latest. Tennessee-ish pattern. 50 cal Colerain, lefty L&R lock, maple wood.

My first experiment with adding many many layers of bone black and burnt umber pigments to Tru-Oil. Turned out pretty nice and gave it that very aged look.

Nice craftsmanship ! Now you have to put Bambi in the freezer with that fine firelock. Good year this January in Pennsylvania's flintlock only season.Click image for larger version.

Impressive rifle! I have built one flintlock, it’s a half stock SMR in 45. I just bought a 32 cal barrel and am at the planning stage for #2.

Do you buy all the parts or hand craft them yourself?

It's a combination. Mostly buy parts. On the rifle above I made the buttplate and nose cap from scratch and modified the purchased trigger guard. When I get my blacksmithing stuff more refined, I'll probably attempt to make more parts myself. Barrels and locks, though, will be purchased as long as they're available to do so. Stocks will always be from a slab.

    Very cool rifle.
I feel that I am too old to get back into forging my parts.
But I still hand make certain parts like locks from spare misc parts.

Impressive, it gives a certain satisfaction to make at least some of your own parts.
I always thought I was pretty good at building things until I saw some of the things you guys make.
    It is rather humbling.
I am glad the skill of hand craftsmanship is not a lost art.

That maple is beautiful. I was about to ask what the finish was. It looked glossy and deep which said tru oil but the color was different. I love it.

Great work!!! Looks like you did some fine carving work at the wrist. Would you post a closeup of that?

No fancy carvings, just an accent line extending back from the lock panel through the wrist.

Beautiful rifle. I agree with elmacgyver. I'm not bad with my hands, but some of the stuff y'all do on this site is humbling.

    Good lines!
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

What has happened to the pictures I posted here?

Missing in other threads too, and I cannot post any new ones.

    Anybody know?
