Wanna Make A Presentation Case For Your C&B Revolver ?

Make a plan, make a box, stain/finish the box exterior, cut out the box interior pieces, glue them together, glue velvet cloth to the pieces, glue the cloth to the inside of the box's bottom/top/sides, then glue the upholstered pieces into the box.

Let the completed box dry at least 24hrs, so that the adhesive's corrosive gas has time to evaporate before placing the gun/accessories in the box.

I use to build lots of those boxes.
But that was way back when Good wood was really cheap.
I built most of mine with glass or plexiglass lids for display .

I bought the green box on the right for my 3rd Generation 1851 Colt Navy and I had some brown felt so I fashioned the box on the left for my 2021 model Pietta 1851 Colt Navy .44 cal. Confederate using a wooden Deluxe Hoppes Cleaning Kit box. For the divider ribs, I used wooden paint stirring sticks.



I am planing on placing a copy of some original Colt paper work inside the lids once I find something that I like.

Nice work, thanks for sharing. I haven't gotten into it yet, but I plan to make a couple for a few rifles. Never done flocking before, so that should be interesting, though I saw a nice tutorial on a woodworking forum that pretty much took all the mystery out of it for me.

FWIW, I didn't use flocking - instead using velveteen/felt cloth cards from a National hobby chain store (Micheal's or Hobby Lobby, IIRC)

I did a double thickness on the inside of the bottom, for extra padding.

I make them a little different but similar to this jewel box! Proper jointed corners and fancy wood, also presentation boxes for knifes.

Father-in-law did one for his late generation Colt Navy. He made two lids (hinges with removable pins). One was plexiglass and the other wood.

I have threatened to do one but have never taken the time.

Don't have to have a lot of tools for nice jointed boxes. Hand cut dovetails work. But it is a learned skill. After 10 or 20 joints you can get a feel for it. Good dovetail saw (mine are the Japanese type). Good sharp chisels. Detail in the layout. Once you get the process down it goes fairly fast.

You can do plain box joint the same way, but, it takes longer to do more cuts. A trick is to make the notches the same width as your chisel.

For rabbits and slots I have a hand router that I made from some scrap oak. The cutting blade is a 1/4" allen wrench ground and sharpened.
