Ever see a 44mag AR? U can now

Finally got my son's AR done. Putting a rimed cartridge in a rimless bolt head like the AR is a bit of a re arrangement of stuff but in the end works pretty good.
    Heres some pics,

Magazine is aftermarket Desert Eagle 8 rd cap. Target is first group sight in at 30 yards, 5 rds PMC 240 JHP. If I had a crosshair & rear sand bag I would have a clean one holer. Funny no one has made a 44 rimmed AR bolt head for these. I had to mod a 450 bushy bolt and headspace on cartridge mouth to get this right. Ramp out the 6 Oclock lug out of the barrel extension. A few tweaks hear n there and bingo, a nice running 44!

That's pretty cool, even though I am not an AR fan. One suggestion if you start having feed problems, try an actual Magnum Research mag. I have a first gen DE in 44 and bought a ProMag mag for it years ago. I have the most problems from that mag.

Wow! That is a pretty nice conversion! I already have 2 AR's. One is a suppressed 300 Blackout. Your 44Mag is a great idea. Lookout now. One of the big accessory companies will pick your idea up. We will see an upper on the market in 2025. Might even be called the "Xtriggerman 44" upper!

Food is overrated. A nice rifle is way more important.

Making a rifle work with a cartridge that it was never chambered for????
    I love it!
That side charging BCA upper is interesting as well.

I'm impressed and interested. I love my lever in 44m, so why not an AR!

I'm crazy about 44Mag rifles and have more than I'd care to admit; but I confess that I wasn't expecting an AR running that ctg.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing, very cool.

Headspace on the case mouth? What case length do you have it set for?

Well, I have some 600 rds of PMC sitting around so they all look like 1.273 so put .005 head space over that and i have pretty good looking fired brass out of the gun. All tho, a guy on another sight said the original 44 built by the guy that has the Tromix web sight said he milled in a bout a 9-12 oclock chamber face extension for a rim seat. I think I'll try that with the next one a buddy wants me to build for him. Add to that, I think I'll shorten the bolt face lugs by .015 that way I get a tad more case wall in the chamber. That will put the chamber face about .020 forward the deep cut in front of the brass rim.

Very nice effort and great result. My kind of project. Any reason you didn't go with the rimless 44 Automag? Brass is pretty easy to form from .308 or 30-06 and should be able to use a standard .308 bolt?

Easy, For one, I have so many irons in the fire, it would make your head spin. Second, like I said, I have some 600 rounds of old PMC ammo left over from my dealer days of the 80's-90s that I dont even want to fool around with reloading the 2K some odd once fired 44mag brass I have. I appreciate your input but in this case Easy and time Arnt on the same page! Be Well
