As stated in the title, what is it? Belongs to a friend. No manufacturer stamp, not even a caliber designation anywhere. Has a flip up ladder sight with a missing bar in it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A small ring Mauser of some sort. Possibly a Swede M38, how big is the bore? Swede is 6.5mm, or could be 7mm or 8mm depending on the country it was issued to.
Curious as to why there would be no markings.
If the bolt face is flat on the bottom and it is a 7mm, it’s a 1893 Mauser/1916 Oviedo.
The absence of a thumb cut for stripper clips is like one of mine.
It looks like the bolt handle has been modified.

Ive seen ammo and rifles with no markings. From what I was told they were both meant for clandestine operations where the supplying country didnt want or couldnt risk being identified.
Many folks who got older actions to refurbish would grind until the rust was gone. Sometimes that meant the markings as well, especially if the rifle is not unusual. Since yours looks like it was modified for a scope I suspect that might be the case here.

It is Not uncommon to find Oviedo Mausers with No Markings beyond Serial.
BTW Someone may have done a Good Job on that bolt handle..Any interest in Trading for an Original??
Okay, there seems to be a consensus on what it is. I will slug the barrel a little later today and report back. Hopefully with the help of the knowledge base on here a caliber can be determined.

Even with no factory origin markings on the receiver, most times the caliber is stamped into the underside of the barrel, near the receiver.

Usually the Crest exists on the ones Converted to 7.62 CMTE (Not 308)
so naked like that, all I have Contacted with are 7X57
Just checked a 93/1920 Oviedo action and barrel on the shelf. Full crest on front ring, but no caliber markings anywhere. Flat bottom bolt, thumb cut, 7x57. A chamber cast is your best bet.
texas is correct... 93/16 Oviedo. Too bad the bolt is turned down.
Both of mine in the picture were 7x57mm with crest. Both shot like throwing rocks so I rebarreled them to 6.5x55 and 30-30.
They were previously sportered -so no collectors value was lost.
I recently got two more 1916 actions in project form and they both have no markings. If they had crests, they were removed carefully by whoever did it- not ground off like Arisakas.

As with anything, what someone is willing to pay. No real collector value since it's not all original. The one similar example I have, came home with me for 150, knowing the sewer pipe barrel was taking a short walk off a long pier. A good number of sad Mauser rifles have followed me home. I enjoy turning them back into something useful, that's value to me.
As already posted, value is what someone might actually be willing to pay. Around this part of the world, with a decent bore, maybe $250-$300. FWIW, though, 5 or 6 years ago, I paid (IIRC) around $180 for a full-military 93/16 Oviedo Short Rifle, rebarreled to 7.62 for use by the Gardia Civil, with crest and all matching numbers. Right now, Simpson's Ltd has one just like it, with a non-matching bolt, flagged for $650.

Funny.. when we cloned it with our added alterations, Germany was all over us with patent infringements, so much for being identified ! LOL
Could it be a well-made copy from the Khyber Pass? The artisans there are known for making high quality copies of western guns.
Currently casting and loading: .32 Auto, .380 Auto, .38 Special, 9X19, .357 Magnum, .257 Roberts, 6.5 Creedmoor, .30 WCF, .308 WCF, .45-70.
Got a chance to slug it. Definitely 7mm. Bore actually looks good from what I can see, no bore scope. Very pronounced rifling.
