Forgot I had the pot going and then of course it decided to leak -- about 15 pounds of it.
I managed to chisel off a bit of it, but think I may have to resort to melting it loose with the propane torch.

Your initial idea about the chisel had validity, as if the base is steel the lead won't have a very firm grip on it and sideways impact with a hammer should loosen and knock it off. If the base is aluminum you may have more of a problem. Good luck with it.

I did that very thing with a full 20lbs a few years back. I keep my pot in a large baking sheet so it did let the alloy cool and not burn the table but once it filled the end of the baking sheet it ran over the edge and melted into my rubber floor mat. There is still at least 5 lbs of metal imbedded in my mat. I got the big chunk and sawed it some with a hack saw and also put it in a vice and hammered it down to size so it could be put back in the pot. It was a real pain that took a lot of work. Have never left the pot again while heating. Good luck with your mess. Go slow and don't tear up your pot.

I've never (yet) had a deluge with the 4-20, but I have had several with the Lee ten pound pots. There is a reason my ten pounder lives in an aluminum turkey roasting pan.

I really think the angled valve plunger is to blame on the ten pound pot. Once the lead starts running from the bottom with a still solid top, there is no way I have found to stop it.

Have I mentioned how much I like the Lee Magnum Melter? Yes it is a dipper pot.

I agree with the lever action, it will come right up. Especially since there appears to be an area in the middle with little or no lead. You can peel the back up and off and then with the molds removed do the same with the front. Does it sound like I have done this before?

My lee 10 pounder does that every time as it melts from the bottom up I just keep a redneck gold mold under it now. Last time I had to use a torch to melt the top so I could close the valve.

It's not that bad. After cooling, many larger spills can be removed with channel locks and a little elbow grease.

Sometimes (back when I used a bottom drip pot) I'd save the little drip towers if they were pretty. Lee drip art.

I had a heart shaped sprue from a double cavity mould once, I gave it to my wife, and she still has it.

He had his automated master caster running.
Went inside to get some lunch and use the bathroom.
Came outside to a stuck boolit with the mold stuck at the bottom. It couldn’t close.

The machine operates on timing. So if it thinks the mold is suppose to be at the top under the pot then it drops lead.
Needless to say there was a small mountain of lead under the pot.

It won’t happen again. I provided a limit switch so now won’t drop lead unless the mold is at the top.
