Yes, that is the latest update available, that I know of.
I am hoping that the next one has the newer powders available.

It would be nice if the powder companies released propellant profiles so we could add them ourselves. The update was overdue at the beginning last year. Now there are even more new powders.

There is a newer update available that has several of the new IMR powders such as 4451 in it. Not at home where I can access it but I purchased it late 2016.

    Interesting...

I think the last update I got was from September 2015 that was stamped on the CD...

Would you happen to know the version of that update?...

    Thanks...BCB

264 was correct. There is a newer update out there. I just got off the phone with Ed, and he said the last version is December 2016. It has all the Enduron powders in it.

What does the "Ballistic Efficiency" mean?...

And, what is an acceptable percentage?...

    Thanks...BCB

Here is a quote from this article, which best sums it up,
    http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/...rom-the-usamu/

Cartridge Efficiency and Energy — Another Perspective
Lapua staffer Kevin Thomas explains that efficiency can be evaluated in terms of energy:

“Cartridge efficiency is pretty straight forward — energy in vs. energy out. Most modern single-based propellants run around 178-215 ft/lbs of energy per grain.
These figures give the energy potential that you’re loading into the rifle. The resulting kinetic energy transferred to the bullet will give you the efficiency of the round.
Most cases operate at around 20-25% efficiency. This is just another way to evaluate the potential of a given cartridge.
There’s a big difference between this and simply looking at max velocities produced by various cartridges.”

    Per Dr. Ken Howell,
IIRR, anything over 20-25% is very good cartridge efficiency.

    Don

    nvreloader...

    Thanks for the reply…

It seems that if I am getting 22%+ with many of my reloads, I might be doing O.K….

I was worried that I had to get near 100% before any efficiency was being noticed!!!

I’ve messed with the program a bit with different powders for a given cartridge/boolit and the best I ever got was 30%--that was with a near maximum charge of a super-fast burner—but, pressures were getting to the warning area…

    Thanks again…BCB

When you have a very accurate load via shooting,
you can enter the load info into QL, and get a reliable info of that load,
then look at the Psi, BT, BE, Fill ratio % and the muzzle PSI of that accurate load.

Then start working with other powders via checking the above spec's, against the original load,
you can get info on the powder you are checking against, to see the results, of the new powder.

By checking the BA rate, Flame temp and Heat of explosion of the various powders on each side,
of the accurate load, you can also find others powders that may be as good or better etc,
    with other brands of powder.

If you don't have a current up to date of the powder spec's, (BA rate, Flame temp and Heat of explosion),
I can send you one for all US powders available, except for the latest Enduron powders,
as I haven't received the latest update disc, (Dec 2016), which has these powders listed.

Send me an email and I'll get it out to you.

    HTH,

    Tia,
    Don

Wow, $16 for the disc and $11.72 for shipping. Obviously I need the disc but they really need to realize it's 2017 and offer downloads.

After you order they adjust the shipping amount. It's always been less than the amount quoted when I get the receipt.

They did adjust it. But shipping was still ridiculous for a single disc. Most computers don't have optical drives anymore. I have an external reader solely for this program and it's updates. It's time to offer online downloads.

Here is a list of powders that are still missing from the program. As you will see there are many. Some of them have been out for quite a while.

    Accurate:
    LT-30
    LT-32

    Alliant:
    1200-R
    Power Pro 2000
    20/28
    Power Pro 300-MP
    Power Pro 4000
    410
    American Select
    BE-86
    Clay Dot
    e3
    Extra Lite
    Pro-Reach
    Promo
    Sport Pistol
    Steel
    Pro Varmint

    Hodgdon:
    700-X
    800-X
    CFE BLK
    International Clays
    Levervoloution
    CFE Pistol
    Superformance
    Titewad

    IMR:
    Blue
    Green
    Red
    Target
    8208 XBR
All of the old SR powders

    Winchester:
    572
    AutoComp
    WSF
    WSH
    WST

I know some of them are really new powders. So I don't expect them to be included. But there a lot of popular powders that aren't in there. Don't get me wrong, the program is great. But as time goes by it's going to become less useful. People have had to buy what they can find. Not what they want. This means people have powders that they can't use w/ this program.

Per the info contained in the QL manual,

The reason that MOST shotgun powders are not included in QL,
is that most shotgun powders are loaded/used to under the 15000 psi levels in/for shotgun loads,
when loaded in a pistol/rifle combos, loads that go over this threshold (15000 to 35000+ psi levels),
give very erratic/dangerous results, at the higher psi levels of pistol/rifle loads etc,
there are several of these powders that have been tested and have proved to be safe etc,
    these powder are included.

How many of the above powders listed,
are OEM spec'd as shotgun powders?

    I would be tickled Pink,
if I could get the Burn rate, Heat of explosion and Ratio of Specific Heat etc,
for any of these powders, a work around could found.

The powder company's just don't give this information out,
and the information can only be obtained from closed bomb tests,
which involves time and funds to test etc.

How many tests would be required to test each powder in the various pistol/rifle calibers?

Until this info becomes available, or can be found, we'll just have to make do with whats available now.

    YMMV,

    Tia,
    Don

Lots of the powders listed have published pistol loads for then. I completely understand w/ ones like 20/28 and 410. But even then Lil'Gun is a 410 powder that has published pistol loads. 700-X and 800-X have published loads across quite a few cartridges.

Then you have powders like CFE Pistol and BE-86. These have been out longer than the Enduron powders. They're both popular powders but aren't included. Same goes for Levervolution and Superformance. Like I said I like the program. But the less powders they include the less useful it becomes. W/ old powders slowly going away this may get worse.

Was very surprised the Enduron powders showed up as quick as they did. Good to know the reason some of them are not listed. Do we have a list of the powders they are not planning on adding?

I may have overlooked it. It's not a powder I use and was just going down the lists. I didn't look into the VV and Lovex/Shooter's World powders because I know they aren't used as much.

See my post for which powders aren't in it. They added the Enduron powders and ones that aren't available in the US.

    Question QL Updates...

Assuming by the date on the pdf that is attached, there are more recent updates?...

Anyone have a link to where the lastest might be purchased?...

If there have been 2 since 2015, will all the updates be on the last disc produced?...

    Thanks...BCB
