    Long Gong?

They have started holding Long Gong, (.22 RF at 300 yards), matches at my local range. Looks like fun. I'm wondering what it takes to get into it and be competitive?

I enjoy shooting at extended range with my RF rifles. All it takes is you wanting to do it! What's incredible is how short of a time it takes to get an average shooter of interest to hitting an 8" at 250. I'm quite certain that wouldn't change much at 300.

I thought this was an ethnic joke thread for a second.

How much more Kentucky Elevation is needed at 300 yards vs. 200 yards?

Elevation is not the challenge. Wind is the challenge.

DIP has rails with built in elevation that you can choose from. I'd also start with something like a bedded Savage action or a CZ.

I have a worked CZ 455 with a DIP products rail. Works well. The newer 457s are out. Make sure you run a FFP scope.

My ruger 10/22 has 10 times the stuff done to it and the bolt is still better. But works well.

What is needed you ask? A 22 you can put a scope on. Some decent 22bullets. A scope you can see the target with. Balls to go have some fun a make some friend. Please let us know how it goes. Good luck!

I shot my Ruger 10/22 at the 300 yd range probably about 15 years ago. I had looked up the hold and I think it was around 11'. Put a piece of duct tape on a large piece of cardboard and managed a three shot group of around a foot or so. Pure luck and no wind. It was fun. The berm above just happened to have a feature I could zero on.

I would want a really good observer on the spotting scope.
"You will wantonly strike a hornet's nest which extends from mountains to ocean, and legions, now quiet, will swarm out and sting us to death. It is unnecessary; it puts us in the wrong; it is fatal." Robert Toombs, Democrat of Georgia, warning of the results of the imminent attack of the Confederacy upon Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor, 1861
