I have known sooo many who have been in similar -- a secretary where I worked had to, with her husband -- rent a storage locker to put all their valuables (cameras, vcrs, firearms, jewelry, etc.) in as their son -- otherwise a good kid -- took and sold them to get money to support his drug habit. With lots of prayer and effort, he turned out OK, and is a member of an AAA-type group for druggies. My prayers and best wishes your grandson similarly gets and stays on course!

Another thing, and this might sound really strange, is that a harm reduction approach is the most realistic option for many people. Many opioid addicts can stick with methadone or buprenorphine treatment just fine. I myself practice this as far as quitting smoking goes. I use non-tobacco nicotine pouches, which give me a fix and don't have the same massive health risks as smoking. I'm also practicing harm reduction for another vice, which I don't want to mention here. All I can say is that it works, and is the best option for alot of folks.

I just wanted to drop in and say that, if you put honest effort into controlling a vice you will get rewarded for it when you don't expect it. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to indulge in my most difficult vice for free, as much as I would have wanted. Without giving it much thought at all, I didn't partake and just kept doing my normal thing. It's hard for me to express what a victory this is. My thought processes are evidently changing to where not engaging in a vice is the default choice.

Thanks pardner. I have a couple of different lifelong vices I'm trying to get control of. Accepting the fact that there is no cure for a vice has been a game changer. The goal is to keep making progress, and loving those little victories.
