I found these primers in my house, when were they Made

Between the Large Primers which ones would be the best to load with now or does it make any Difference ?
I dont think that I need the Magnum Primers but they are primers and if it gets down to it I would use them if I had to.

The primers were found my Dresser Drawer ,Kept above 50 degrees and below 80 Degree,in a dry enviroment.

Will be using with HP-38 and CFE Pistol Powder with Powder charges of about 5.5 Grains of the HP-38 and 6 grains of CFE Pistol.
Loading for 44 special and 250 Grain Lead RNFP and 38 Special with a 158 Lead Bullet.

Both will be used in a Rossi 92 16 inch Barrel Lever action Carbine's.

They’re all good. I would load the standard primers first, then move to the magnums.

I would hammer test of of each and decide from there.

I am still using some that look like that from the 70's. They work just fine.

...and a third "ditto" may be the charm . I bought a pile of primers exactly resembling both the CCI and Winchester ones pictured, and I would be loose with the truth if I said there were ZERO duds. But, I will say that, perhaps I can count all the failures on the fingers of one hand . If I was going on, say, a hunt with dangerous game lurking I'd most definitely purchase new, fresh primers for my loads. BUT -- for casual/range shooting -- I'd hesitate not -- as I am still doing -- in using them. One of the big "uh, what?" questions is re storage. Mine are kept in a cool basement, in a closed wooden box with lots of desiccant bags. If your primers were stored where the temp and/or humidity gets wild, then ??????????????

"Standard" or "Magnum". I've used both in .38 special and .357 magnum and absolutely cannot notice any difference.

I have used primers that are over 30 years old without issue, but George makes a good point. Storage conditions could affect how they perform.

Most of my primer boxes look like that.

    Haven't had any problems.

Your dresser drawer?? Were they under your socks....I could use problems like that.

IF they were stored in the house like you say I would absolutely trust them for any use. I started loading in the late 1970's and all those boxes have crossed my loading bench so in ammo terms they aren't too old. I keep a brick of all my primers on my loading bench in the garage and have never had but 1 primer that I would say failed. That was a Large Rifle years ago in a Winchester 94 30-30. Repeated hammer cocks wouldn't fire it. It was a blessing really in that it was a guy who was expecting me to load ammo for him because I was a reloader and it was "cheap for me". As soon as that round failed to fire one day while we were deer hunting I never got asked for free ammo again. Other than that any misfires I've had were gun related, usually my experimenting with light weight hammer springs in various guns.

My wife’s uncle kept his primers in the basement in a dead fridge. He lived in Elyria Ohio.

No not the drawer with sock's but a different drawer with a belt that wont fit any more, and about 15 pocket knives and a couple of old billfold's.

I thought I had some somewhere and turned the house upside down looking for them.

If it wasn't for the Primer shortage they would still be there.

Heck ,I may have more somewhere else that I will find while I am looking for something else !

I have primers that are over 70 years old and were NOT stored under the best conditions, in the attic where it hit 150 degrees in the summer and well below zero in the winter. Have not had a misfire yet!
