    Perplexed about buying Promo

Right now I have about half of an 8 lb. jug of Promo, which I use a lot of. Given the current world geopolitical situation, and on-off supply of smokeless powder, I am considering buying another 8 lb. just in case. The LGS has several jugs of Promo for $359.00. None of the online vendors that I have used have it in stock. I can find it online through vendors that I have never heard of or used before. The fact that they say they have it makes me wonder if they are legit. They are considerably cheaper, though.

Are there vendors out there that I can trust?

I do not think your going to fine it cheaper after hazmat fee and shipping. Toss up the names of the places you found it and people will answer if they ever bought from them before. Sorry not sure this helps.

Vendors I trust, Powder Valley, Midwayusa, Midsouth, Natchez, Ballistic Products come to mind. Usually Powder Valley for powder and Primers. There are others but never did ammo or HAZMAT with them. Do not live close to any retailers like Cabela's, Scheel's.

Even "expensive" powders are cheap if the charge weights are low - like Promo / RD.

If they take credit cards, the risk is low. $300+ for Promo is too high IMO. There are plenty of alternatives.

Thanks everybody. Places I have checked, that I have not ever used, are Rockstone Ammo Store (edit does not accept credit cards), Bulksammunition, and Shyda's outdoor center.

In this day and age, a place not taking credit cards is a big red flag.

If they only take non-refundable payment methods they are 100% scam.

Just not worth using places that are not familiar or you haven't checked through the BBB.

I'm with mostlylever guns. Of them all Ballistics's products would be my #1 choice.

when dealing with the internet these days... if the website main page has a date NEWER then 2020 its most likely a scam.

If it has Larry Potterfields picture, name, signature, on it, and the URL is not midwaysusa, its a scam.

If they have primers in stock,,, its most likely a scam if they dont say "in store pickup only".

But the minute they only want Zelle or bitcoin payment, its a scam.

The last 8lb jug of Promo I bought was $160. Before that they were $100-120.

I love Promo. Use Promo where I use to use Red Dot. Been using it for years . Works great for me. Last 8# keg I bought was about $160. That was three years ago.

My last jugs were $68 purchased at the Ohio State Trap Championships. I bought 6 jugs IIRC. At the time, 12-14 years ago, I was using over four jugs a year. One of the best kept secrets of the time.

Bought an 8lb keg of Redot from a LGS that was going out of business for $180
This was some years ago and seemed a bit pricey at the time but I'm glad I bought it. Still unopened.

Well, I bit the bullet (so to speak) and bought the promo for a ruinous price. I had about a hundred dollars from my scrapyard sales, and a gift card I got for Christmas. Fortunately my wife, who was never into hunting or shooting, let me put the rest on the credit card. She fears the confiscation policies of the government even more than parallel parking.

Now I have so many bottles of powder that they actually overfill the cabinet that serves as the powder magazine.
