    Marlin 39A help...

Anyone familiar with Marlin 39A lever rifles? I have one where the carrier/rocker doesn't always came up to lift the next case in position, and can't figure out exactly why. I'm assuming it just cams with the finger lever, just not sure.

This is the position its supposed to be in with the lever fully lowered...

...except, it doesn't do this every time. About half the time, it seems to make it only to the middle position.

Suggestions? This is a pretty old one, likely pre 60's (or even earlier).

I have one but have never had that problem. I’m going on memory but isn’t the lifter spring loaded?

Get the AGI video from midway USA. Well worth the money. It used to be on YouTube but someone deleted it. Amazing details.

The boss I've marked is springloaded from behind. The spring is weak, so the cam surface on the back of the lever is riding over it. New spring will fix it.

    Great answer!

That look on your face, when you shift into 6th gear, but it's not there.

I thought that was likely the issue. I actually pulled the spring this morning, and it was mostly flat. I manually bent it a little to give it a little more curve, and reinstalled...didn't really help. Not sure if its simply lost too much temper to be effective, so I may simply order a replacement spring and see if it helps.

Looks like Jack First has it:

Wisner's server is down so couldn't check there.

Thanks. Didn't know about those folks. Saving the thread in case I have an issue with mine.

Just a thought, what about a call to Wolff Springs with all the dimensions, chasing another 50 to 70 year old spring?

Jack First sells new-made parts, not used.

Both Jack First and Wisner supply only new-made parts. Wisner is a manufacturer. Not like Numrich, who peddles used parts, moldy old stock bought at auctions, and even reject lots. (Ask me about the .22 liners I bought from Numrich once.)

Given the huge and diverse inventories they maintain, I wonder how Jack First and Wisner do it. Turnover can't be all that high, but they must somehow be profitable, because they're still in business.
