45 acp Carbine gets it done!

First season to deer hunt with my 45 acp hi-point (have taken several pigs with it) and she worked like a champ! Not a huge deer, but double lung hit from 35 yards and he dropped in 50 or so yards. Eat right up to the hole, no blood shot meat!Click image for larger version.

Lee 200 rf powdercoated and loaded over reddot to around 1050fps. Turns out you don't need a meat hammer cannon to hunt with!

Nice shootin! And 'NO', if you are careful about your shot placement, you don't need a mega-super magnum for whitetail. You're in for some good eating! hc18flyer

    That's pretty cool! Great job!
I've never thought of a HiPoint carbine as a hunting set up, but looks efficient!

I'd by a Hi point, IF they would take a Glock magazine.
Nooo, they ain't pretty but they run.
It would make a good truck gun.

    Nice shootin!

I've got an old Hi Point 9mm carbine with a 90's tasco 3x9 that I keep in the calving shed. It's accounted for a whole lot of vermin. Never malfunctions. I know they're capable weapons!

Very good deer and good shot placement.

I purchased a 40 S&W & like it pretty well. Need to put a scope on it due to my Old Eyes.

Congratulations !! After decades of mostly bowhunting, weapons like that are just fine for deer hunting as long as you are hunting and not just shooting.

I've thought about your post all day. I have struggled with my semi auto carbines in pistol calibers as far as loads go; even after using "PCC Carbine" data. I am often disappointed when using standard pistol loadings in the longer barrel length as well.
How did you determine your load for that 200gr pill? I am impressed with the performance and would enjoy hearing more about your load development if possible.

Great shot with a great caliber.

some of the local weres buying the 10 mm hipoint for use on hogs. I do not know how well they worked. Trigger leave a lot to be desired, but they will do the deed. Remember at one time the 32-20 was considered an adequate hunting round in the usa.

I wouldn't be caught dead with one of their handguns, but the darn carbines get some pretty good reviews. Great to see you put yours to such good use!
I got a kick out of James Reeves' take on it in this TFB Youtube:

No real load load development to be honest. When I first got the hi-point I was working up loads and trying to hotrod it. Got the 200 grain pills up to 1350fps with blue dot when the slide speeds gets high enough for the sear to bounce and pop off double or triple taps and accuracy goes south, maybe due to slipping the shallow pistol style rifling. One night the outside dog was fussing and I took it out with my basic pistol and accuracy load of red dot expecting the usual opossum or 'dillo, but ran into a large hog just outsids the yard. Figured why not, so took the 70'ish yard shot, spined him and he dropped. Shot him again to stop the squealing.
Long story short, both shots were clean pass throughs on a close to 200 pound hog, high shoulder and in the back out the chest.
After that I decided I didn't need to hotrod it and just stick to my trusty accuracy load. All my deer stands are set up for bow hunting, so short range, and the last time I shot a deer with a 30-06 from one of those I wasted most of the shoulder.

Brian Pierce published an article in "Handloader Magazine" about the 45 Colt cartridge. In it he described shooting an elk with a 250 gr cast bullet at 800 fps from a revolver. The broadside shot passed completely through and the elk was recovered nearby. To each his own, but I've always gotten satisfaction from getting close to game animals when I hunt.
