    Alloy?

New to casting, I'm going to try my hand at casting a 400 gr bullet for my 40-65, I have some 1-20 material I figure I'll use for BP loads, but also want to cast dome for smokeless. I'll be shooting around 1200 fps loads.I was thinking Lyman #2, but wanted to ask first. Thanks

Why not work up a load with the mix you already have in the pot and see when accuracy falls off. You might not need to complicate life so much. 1-20 is about 10 BHN.

    BHN. 15 alloy Chart.

For smokeless, BHN 15 will get the job done.

At those speeds, pretty much anything will work well.
You're not quite at a threshold where you'd need the harder alloys to keep the Leading of the barrel down.
I'd put just enough 'goodies' in the alloy to get a good fill out in your molds, and not worry about the hardness.

Your 20:1 will work well for both applications.
    Good Luck,
