    10 pt with .358 Win

Last Saturday was the deer gun opener in WI and I was blessed to have harvested a fine 10 pt with my trusty Ruger M77 Hawkeye chambered in .358 Win. Projectile was a Saeco #352 cast in #2 Lyman and traveling 2,000 FPS. Dropped that bad boy like a stone at 55 yds.

That deer looks like he had a bad day. Good shooting. The 358 is an interesting cartridge.

Oh that's awesome man. I can't wait to take a buck with my new 358 Win and some cast boolits. I assume it was a pass through.

should'a given him one more year, he'd have really been a nice'un! Great job, neck shots usually put'em down where they stand.

Oddly enough no. This was actually the first time I didn’t get a pass through with this rifle. The buck was quartering towards me when I shot. The bullet blasted through the spine (leaving some lead fragments there) and blew bone fragments throughout the lungs. No exit hole. I assume the bullet is in the gut pile.

That neck shot dropped him nicely. I have grown to like the 35s as a cast bullet rifle for hogs as well. Good hunt and good result.

I was born and raised in Madison and still have family in the state. I was hunting on my brother’s place. Yes, I have lived in AK twice for a total of 14 years. Moved south 3 years ago. Miss the big game up there, but not the long dark winters lol.
