    358 mold help

    Just finished building a 19” 358 Winchester AR10.

Looking for recommendations for a deer boolit that will feed in the ar platform .

I’ve tried the NOE SC360-232-RF that I have samples of and it just will not feed.

Thanks for any help.Click image for larger version.

just brain storming on this a bit...
Maybe take the loaded spire point cartridges and cut off the noses a little and then hollow point them. Not a lot of work considering how few will actually make meat. And perhaps best of all you could determine the overall length and how big to make the flat and how deep to make the hollow point instead of being locked in on a single design.

That's a path forward I'd been considering for these 280 grain mojos, paper patching in a 9.3x74R.

The RCBS 35-200fn is one many copy and its a dandy. Usually no feeding issues but admittedly. Not make
    AR-10 35's around...

Lee, NOE & MP make a dandy copy. Lee has a slightly larger meplat and MP
Of coarse has a HP and a 220g Version. This 220g and RE7 is my favorite in my 358 Bolt gun.

I have considered the RCBS as I believe it might feed.
I just have this problem of wanting heavy for caliber for cast, not that it’s needed here.

Yeah, I’ve never seen another 358 AR but I like stuff out of the ordinary . I’m building a Savage 358 with Shaw barrel right now.

Very nice video, thanks for linking that.

There are some good looking boolits there for sure. Noe has their copy of the RCBS 35-200 in stock so I may be purchasing that mold and hoping it will feed .

The RCBS 35-200 is what I have used to take several deer & all were complete pass thru shots but one & it was a Texas heart shot, but still got the deer. Could have used a little heavier bullet at that moment, But I usually don't shoot them in the butt. It was a really nice 8pt that I didn't want to get away. Still put him down rather quickly. Later i got Tom at accurate molds to make me a 254gr mold. -06

    That’s awesome 06.

I’ll have to post an ad in the swapping and selling section to see if I can get some to test feeding in the ar-358

Not an AR-10, an AR-15, which is actually worse to deal with as it has a shorter everything, but I have two in the 358 MGP (6.8 SCP necked up to 35). The AR platform will feed properly if the OAL is correct for the bullet design, have had no problem with the round nose or flat point bullets. To feed HPs or the RCBS 180 stubby cast, I had to modify the feed ramps.
The heavy spire point 358 is elongating the projectile to the max design, which is 180 degrees out from where you really want to be with an AR magazine restriction.
I shoot 180s, 200s and 225s but all in a blunt nose design in order to shorten the bulle and thus the OAL. I can get the 180s to perform in a spire point, but not the 200s or 225s.

This is an actual 200gr RCBS plain base powder coated in the 358 MGP for the AR, next is the 200 RCBS in a 358 Win in a M-96 Mauser conversion from a 6.5x55 that feeds perfectly. Note how the bullet is seated, compared to the 200 Remington RN.
If you need some 200 to test, I have cast with lube and gas check as well as PCed plain base with no gas check.

By the way, the 200 PCed in the 358 MGP with a 16" barrel does 2,490 fps choreographed, at .43 inch groups at 100 with 1680. No leading. So whatever gets shot, stays shot.

    Rapier ,
    That’s pretty impressive .
I posted a wanted ad before I saw your post here . I would love to try some plain base powder coated as that’s what I would order when getting a mold.
Also NW Florida is really close to home and I have lived in NW Florida a couple of times .
I’m just nw of Dothan .

the NOE mould # is 360-249-RN-VG , I use this mould in both my AR-10 358 win. and my 358 yeti ,powder coated and sized to 360 you can gas check if you want to get more velocity out of them but I run them with just enough to cycle the actions which is around 1600 fps. with great accuracy and the hogs and deer I have shot have all been complete pass through and very limited tracking 30-50 yards .

That sounds like a fine combo right there .
Any chance of buying a few off of you to test?

    look at the NOE 360-230-FN-AU1

I have used it a 35 whelen / both Powder coated and lubed 230g

Previous name / design was the 35 xcb bullet
    -------------------------------

you could also try the Lyman 358315 204g ( lyman cast # 4 has data)

Is that a copy of the Lyman 250 RN by chance? (I have the mold but its number escapes me)
