I understand. I owned a IH Scout II and a IH 3/4 ton 4x4. Both were outstanding rigs. I have a nice late Springfield and a nice H&R. The only one missing (edit: from the post WW2 Garands) is a IHC Garand. I was spending $ on other things when CMP had them at affordable $. Now I can't afford one.

I bought an M1 thru the DCM in the early 80's and it had the paper tube in it then. Most likely they all did prior to shipment from the DCM.

Besides the tube it had only a light preservative coating on the metal, easily removed. Wasn't buried in cosmoline.

Standard practice was each rifle was test fired with 4 rounds for function, a quick inspection then packaged and shipped to the buyer.

Came in a heavy duty cardboard box with nothing besides the tube in the barrel. $165 shipping included.

30calflash - got mine about same time in same packaging as yours - deset storm was starting + delivery was delayed for 9 months - when it arrived carrier left it on front step with no signature required - ironically i live less than a mile from old Raritan arsenal + it was correct + matching SA 1942 with the exception of a post war stock with Raritan arsenal stock + Winchester bolt -

To answer the question asked earlier, if it is marked BLUE SKY, it is NOT a CMP rifle. Blue Sky was a commercial importer. CMP sells ONLY USGI returns with no import marks.
