Had diner with a friend tonight and he brings out a new to him rifle. It's a beauty, but has some issues. I would like to find a source to research the thing. My inept computer search abilities are purely not good enough. Here's a brief description of the thing and I was hoping somebody might be able to point me in the right direction;
Bolt action Mauser style action made by Sauer & Sohn's. Most probably 8mm (which one I don't know yet. I need to slug the barrel). Solid rib atop the octagon to round barrel. Claw type scope mounts. Blue steel on walnut. Schnable front end. Bubba has had his hands on it, unfortunately, as it has a Marbles rear sight cut into the barrel rib and a pachmyer rubber recoil pad afixed. It will chamber some of my 8mm (.323) reloads but not others. It will not chamber 8mm military cartridges. ---- and no --- it hasn't been fired with either! I plan a chamber cast and a slugging of the barrel before we go too much further.
If anybody has a reference or research idea, I'd love to hear it.
Thanks, 725
