Doing a double with the wife on KY's opening day rifle with the wife.

Did not see anything all morning, I was sick and we came out at 10, went to the walk in clinic and got a shot. Felt some better but went back hunting at 4pm. at 5pm the wife shot hers, a #100 doe gutted, at 257 yds with her Savage .270, perfect 1/2" behind the shoulder, DRT. I was hunting about 3/4 mile away from her, and at 5:20 out stepped a big ole nanny and I ranged her at 310 yds, and took careful aim with my Savage 6.5x284, and put one right in the back edge of the shoulder, same result, DRT. We have our work cut out for us now, but I was able to bend over and dress them both, and the wife and I picked them up and put them on the back of the Honda side by side. She was using Federal 130gr blue box cheap stuff that shoots great in her rifle, I was using Sierra 140BTSP, running around 3050fps with a good dose of H4831 behind it. Dead nuts accurate and kills great. Just thought i would share, TBG may post pics for me in a bit.

Well done, you two. Nice country there also!
Does are the best venison and we should all shoot more of them.

Good job Sam. I'll give you a call sometime in January and we can talk about swapping barrels on the 98 Mauser.
ps. Shot an 8 point on my little farm last Saturday. Hope to get a doe during late muzzleloader season. Freezer needs more venison.
