Advise on a Marlin mold

Recently acquired a 75 model Marlin 1895 Cowboy in 45-70. I've been doing some research and am leaning towards a 350 grain .460 Accurate mold. Curious if anyone has experience with this or other molds they may suggest for this gun. Ranges will be 200 yds and in

The RCBS with a gascheck and the other one, 325 - fn - u both work really well in mine. The 405 does too but kicks more.

If looking at the 350gr range/soft shooting in Tom Ellis' "Accurate" Molds, consider the 45-340L (Gould clone/solid)

I use a NOE 400 gr GC FP in the Marlin 45/70 and the BFR 45/70
Out of both the groups are great

I like the RCBS 45-300 Flatnose Gas check. Been using it a very long time. Works fine on deer and elk, I run it at 2100 fps using Accurate 2015. Recoil is UNCOMFORTABLE at that speed. Run it at 1200-1500 fps for practice and pleasure. Accuracy is well under 2" at 100 yards. I sized to .360 for best accuracy. Some RCBS molds drop small, a similar bullet from Accurate or the 460-315 from NOE should also work well. Heavier bullets are only needed for bison, cavalry horses and MAYBE the really really big bears.

The .45-70's have mostly been my Dad's thing. The RCBS 405 grain FNGC has been an impressive shooter in all those it's been tried in, and delivers stellar accuracy in his Remlin 1895. The medium meplat makes it a decent target bullet with a little less aerodynamic drag than the WFN's. If you don't intend to run it hot, I'm sure there are plain base clones to be found.

The 405 grain bullet works great in my guide gun from zero recoil plinkers to moose killing loads.

The accurate 460-350vg, 405v or vg, 430v or vg, with that nose profile was made when Beartooth took months or more to get me an order so I sent Tom the BTB piledrivers to make molds of back in 2011.
They all work great in leverguns and have the same nose profile, just a longer bullet and flat base or gas check.

My experience also. RCBS 458-300-FN GC. Got mine loaded down to about 1500 fps and it was much friendlier to shoot. I sized to .458" and it worked great. My barrel was the regular rifling, not the micro-groove and slugged at .457"

RCBS 300 ( casts 310-315 depending on alloy) or 400 ( these can start to hurt) When loaded both RCBS bullets have the same profile and feed well.

Tom made 365 grain mold for my 45-70. It may not be official but he makes molds for bullets with a "Marlin Nose" which fit the Marlin chambers wonderfully. A friend also has a 405 grain mold from him with the same nose. He can make whatever weight you want and incorporate the nose I'm speaking of. I can get the mold number if you like but would have to dig it out.

I believe my mold is the 46-365B. He can make it in 350 grain also.

Thanks for posting this! I load for my brother and his 45-70 really liked the BTB Piledriver, now I can get them again.
