I appreciate all the kind words and messages everyone's sent, and I appreciate the sample bullets and cartridge cases I've been receiving in the mail. BulletMatch wouldn't be possible without the support of the community and I sincerely hope it becomes a blessing to everyone that casts and reloads.

I've been gathering the things needed to get into loading 45-70. I've been researching .457/.458 bullets. If anyone has a copy of the Lyman 457124 I'd love have samples of that bullet.

I got some more bullets finalized earlier. It's so much fun researching bullets, especially if they are old and historic like the Ideal 358429. This one has a round lube groove, does anyone know when Lyman switched from the square lube groove to the round?

I fine batch of samples came in today. Nice and crisp driving bands, no wrinkles. I appreciate a good filled out bullet when it comes time to measure and take photographs.

I agree. Good sticky material here. Glad to have been one of the first guys to send in samples.
Currently looking for a Lyman/Ideal 311419 Mold - PM if you have one you'd like to get rid of!

I appreciate the kind words all.

Jdgabbard, I must say, you cast very well. Good crisp bullets. They are a pleasure to work with.

    Thanks, Bazoo.

The key is a hot mold. That's one of the reasons I like Brass or Iron over Aluminum. I like to run the molds hot, and the Brass and Iron molds hold the heat a little better.

Yeah, I think mould temperature is the most critical part of casting quality bullets. I use aluminum and iron. I've not used brass yet. But I've noticed with aluminum, breaking your cadence even for just a few seconds causes your mould to start cooling down. Not just with the smaller Lee moulds, but even with larger moulds like Accurate's 2 cavities.

I think one of the things that helps, is the handle design. With Lee's 2 cavity moulds the handles are smaller, which doesn't hold as much heat. With other brands, or with the Lee 6 cavity handles, when the handles themselves come up to temperature, they hold a lot of heat and help maintain the mould temperature better.

Not to say I don't use plenty of Lee 2 cavity moulds!

I have an MP454640 with a sample of every HP pin I can send you, if you do not have already.

I do not have that one. I did get your email. Thank you very much for the help.

I couldn't do this catalog without the help of all the folks sending samples.

    Merry Christmas!

I have made a spreadsheet of my Bullet Samples that updates automatically as I add to it.

We did some work on the Lead Alloy Calculator earlier and now it registers in smaller increments to better figure tin additions.

I use the alloy calculator myself quite a bit.

    Bazoo, this is outstanding !!

I'll check your spreadsheet and see what I may have to add.
It doesn't look like you have the MP 227-640 (Hornet, But I use it for 22 TCM; or the MP .452 HB WC (can't remember the num off the top of my head).
And no .50's ????? Heaven forbid!! I have a few of those I'll get together.

I'm going to try some of these Matt's 458-365-RF in the 45-70 sometime soon. Starting to be warm, so plenty of good testing days to come.

Bazoo: BulletMatch is chocked full of such useful information. I really like the lead alloy calculator, and have used it several times. The reference on cast bullets specifications is super good. I like that the ballistic coefficients are listed for cast bullets so that shooters can plug that information into ballistic calculators and get their down range performance for their loads. I generally write up a drop chart for my cast loads, with height or drop at 50 yard intervals out to 300 yards, then put that info on a card that I place in the ammo box. You're doing some really great work.
