    Forming 6.5 Grendel to 7.62x39

I’m looking to use SR primers instead of LR primers in my 7.62x39 Ruger Mini 30 & Ruger Ranch. There’s not a lot of SR 7.62x39 brass that I can find. From what I can see Hornady makes limited runs of every once in a while.

However 6.5 Grendel is available now from Hornady, Starline and somebody else I can’t think of at the moment.

Has anyone necked up the 6.5 Grendel and used it as 7.62x39?

All loads would be for journeyman velocity and accuracy. I’m particularly fond of the the NOE 311-158. It looks a lot like the old NEI’s 52A. Thanks, Bill C.

Ten plus years ago Remington was using small rifle primers in 7.62x39 brass, they worked fine for my plinking loads with a PB 120.

I believe Starline sells 6.5G basic brass (straight wall with no headstamp) so it can be form to any cartridge or wildcat based on this case (I use ‘em to form 9x39)

I just found some Winchester 7.62x39 brass with small primers this weekend. It's out there.

Congratulations on finding some. I'm still on the hunt. The closest I can come to a solution is if and when Hornady decides to make another limited run. But I'll keep plugging along trying to find some. Thanks to everyone for your input. Bill C.

The new WW 7.62x39 fmj stuff I bought last month was loaded with small rifle primers. Maybe Winchester will offer it for sale

Thanks for the hope of that. I’m a half glass full kind of person. Bill.
