    Reloading manual

Any one recommend a relatively new reloading manual that might include gas gun data for garand (both 308 and 30-06) I have Sierra Edition 6 and several others but looking for recommendations none the less.

    Thanks

Am not aware of any loading manual with specific info for Garand or M14. Your best place to start, though, is probably Barnes 'Cartridges of the World' which provides the milspecs (including powder types and projectile weights) for all standard types of both GI 30-06 and 7.62x51 cartridges. For cast loads, Bruce B's sticky '7.62x51 NATO (.308 WCF) in the Springfield M1A' on this forum's 'CB Loads/Military Rifles' has a much good infomation as you'll find anywhere.

The Hornady Manual, 8th edition, has a 308W Service Rifle section and limited data in an M1Garand section.

American Rifleman March 1983 has a good article with load data by John R. Clarke.

    Jack,

You are very prudent to keep aware of load data for gas guns. I got my first Garand in 1964 and have since got a few more and several M1As since then. I keep mid-level loads on establishment; only enough IMR4895 to keep up to the accuracy loads. IMR 4895 is my only powder for Cast and Jacketed loads.

My Hornady Manual has a Garand section, which corresponds with my mid-level accuracy loads.

Hodgdon also lists M1 Garand data on their website.

As well, the Hodgdon site has ".308 Winchester service rifle" data for the 7.62x51 cartridge loaders, limited mainly to target loads for Service Rifle shooting.

Speer #12 uses a small symbol to note Semi-auto, gas operated rifle safe loads of '06.

Does load data for .308(7.62X61) apply to Garand conversions?
