What is the age of the rifle.
There are 3 different extractors due to the long production, and 2 of them are long out of factory Marlin production

Type 1 up to 1957, angled small flat spring
Type 2 up to 1972, machined 1 piece
Type 3 up till production stopped, is the stamped one, and FYI, the type 2 extractor is a drop in replacement

Sometimes you can take it out of the bolt and clean the space it goes into and that fixes it.
I had one that after about 30 years, it got kind of gritty in there.
Depending on how old it is, and no more expensive than they are-
changing it anyway once you clean the bolt is a good idea.

The tip of the extractor can get rounded off causing it to slip over the rim.
