    It's a sound plan if I do say so myself. . .

I went out and checked the ammo boxes on your behalf. The ammo for the late 1940's No. 4 ended up with the .316. The totally-rebuilt-to-new-in-1953 (FTR-stamped) ended up with the .314. The P14 box was not properly marked, so that'll take a deeper dive into the records box. Like I say, all over the map. . .even in the same later production period.

But if you've got all three diameters, you're good on .30-06, 7.62x54R, 7.65 Belgian/Argentine, 7.7 Japanese, and .303. The widespread consensus seems to be that the 299 is an "accuracy without effort bullet", so it's a safe one to bet on.
    WWJMBD?

In the Land of Oz, we cast with wheel weight and 2% Tin, Man.

If you don't have access to Red Dot for "The Load", try 16 grains of Alliant's 2400 powder behind your projectile of choice. It won't beat you up with recoil but will have sufficient power and penetration to hunt with at reasonable ranges.

I’ll have to try the 2400 at some point I was thinking on trying it in place of IMR 4227 for the 200gr NOE bullet

The NOE 316 299 powder coated and gas checked over 36 grains of IMR 4350 is my go to load for my SMLE.

What sort of velocity you get out of that load? And what hardness of lead are you using? I only ask because I have a few lbs of 4350 and the only other rifle caliber I shoot anymore is 223

I don't have a chrono but I know that when I shoot it at 100 yards, it shoots the same POI as jacketed. I use range scrap, probably 10 bhn or so and is powder coated and gas checked.
