among my .44 molds, I already have a double cav. 44-240-SWC #429421 by RCBS_
I have now been offered to buy a double cav. 44-240-SWC #82042, same brand, n.o.s._
decent price_
I don't know much about it: could the purchase make sense or not?

Food is overrated. A nice rifle is way more important.

The RCBS 44-240-swc # 82042 shows to be the gas check style bullet. There is an RCBS 44-245-SWC # 82043 that is plain based. There is a LYMAN 429421 which is the 245 grain SWC plain based bullet. This is from a 2013 catalog.
thanks for clearing my confusion and putting my ideas back into focus: my old RCBS cardboard packaging actually has written on it part no. 82042/Lyman reference#429421_
the most recent, in plastic, is the one in the image, but evidently it is the same bullet.
thanks again for your help!

I use that bullet exclusively in .44 mag with GC.
It cast beautiful bullets. Love rcbs moulds.

do you think it worth a double buy, in this case, to cast with two molds at the same time ?
interested because I've seen that quite productive with aluminim molds, but never tried with irons

I have not had much success buying molds produced at different times. I have three Ly 358242 of the 120-125 grain range, no two identical. I have two Lee 6 cav molds C312-155-1R and the nose on one is .301 and the other is .303. If you want to tandem cast, I would suggest visually different bullet forms of similar weights and not try to keep similar, but not identical bullets separated.
If you are a card carrying casting junkie , and have the addiction ...
Here are a few reasons I have used to justify buying another mould , even if I have one already .
1.) You always need a spare ... you got a spare tire in your trunk ... you need a spare .
2.) I can use it to cast with two moulds , fill one , let cool while filling the second ...this is actually a great way to increase production .
3.) Price is too good to pass up ... Had to buy it .
4.) Will use it as a "lender" ...you hate to tell someone NO but you don't want to lend out your "good" mould .
5.) These may be discontinued ... I need to get it while available .
6.) My old mould is showing signs of wear ... this will be my "new" mould .
7.) My old mould is PB ... this one is GC , and I might need a gas checked boolit one day for softer bhn shooting .
8.) Get it now , you never know what the future holds !
I'm sure we could come up with more excuses ... but the bottom line and one of the Boolit Casting Rules is never pass up a good deal on a boolit mould !
