    thompson center renegade carbine value

I saw this 50 cal muzzle loader with double set triggers and short 21" barrel today in fair condition at a pawn shop was wondering what might be a fair price to pay for it. they wanted $225 out the door and its missing the screw in percussion cap nipple.

A nipple is about $8- 12.00. I would prefer the standard 26" barrel. If the rifle is in good shape (bluing and bore), and you are OK with the shorter barrel, that's not a bad price. I have a TC New Englander with 26" barrel that I like for tree stand hunting. I just purchased a Hawken that is missing some bluing and a little bore 'roughness' for $200. shoots fine. hc18flyer

PS- I would offer less due to the shortened barrel?

I'd grab it! Great rifle and if it's only missing screw, that can be easily addressed.

If the bore is good, that sounds like a fair price. They are good rifles.

Make an offer, they probably have like 40 bux in it. Pawn shops give little more than scrap value for used muzzleloaders.
    Currently casting and loading: .32 Auto, .380 Auto, .38 Special, 9X19, .357 Magnum, .257 Roberts, 6.5 Creedmoor, .30 WCF, .308 WCF, .45-70.

    .

Many owners mistakenly remove (and lose) that little screw in the side of the snail while cleaning (no need to) - so it's not a big deal to replace it.

Pawn shops typically have a 100% markup on whatever, so I would deal with the pawn shop owner (NOT a clerk), lay a yard and a half ($150) in cash on the counter and say that's all you can spend on it - then keep my mouth shut until the owner agrees or passes.

However if it's worth the asking for you, just grab it.

condition means everything for pricing an older TC ML.
$225 is a great price is the gun is functional and the bore isn't rusted.

side note: This reminds me to run a couple patches through my two older TC ML guns. They haven't been touched in a couple years.

JonB beat me to it. Check that the bore isn't rusted. Tons of muzzleloaders have been left uncleaned and the bore gets pitted. Value goes way down if the bore is pitted (in my opinion).

Nothing wrong with that 21" barrel. I have a T/C White Mtn. Carbine 50 cal with a similar barrel and used it for years to bag a few elk. It shot so well that I named it "Sweet Thing". Hopefully the bore is OK.

I killed my one and only Tule Elk with a 45 cal TC Renegade. Green Mountain did some fast twist drop in barrels for the Hawken and Renegade a number of years ago. I used a shortened 540 gr. Paul Jones G.G. Bullet and was a fun gun and shot very good.
