    old shell holders

Three old shell holders turned up in a box of stuff. They are basically the same size and shape of the Herter's shell holders that use set screws. The difference is that the shank that slips in the ram doesn't have a groove for the set screws, just a straight shank and the priming holes are a different size. There is one dimple in the front of the holder for a set screw. On a Herters press the two set screws are in the side of the ram.

    Wells, Lachmiller ? I can't find anything.

Just a guess, but maybe they fit the old Lyman 310 turret press?

Pictures would really be useful here.

PS to curiousgeorge: if they are the size of Herter’s shell holders, they are much larger than any of the J type holders from Lyman.

I can't do pictures, never could get the hang of it. They are the basically size of the Herter's large holders but the shank is a couple thousands bigger and will not fit in a Herter's ram. Not a big deal just something sort of odd.

Modifying them to fit a Herter's ram would not be a problem.

What about a Lachmiller priming tool? I think early ones used a unique shellholder. Try searching on those.

j4570, I think you have hit the nail on the head.

    Thanks
