    IT members????

I'm pretty much computer illiterate, but..........
    Just wondering...........
We must have a few good IT guys here.
Maybe they could "lend a hand" or share some insight into what is going on.
I run my computers until they just about die.
One of them, I just changed a year ago, still had MS vista in it.
Was working fine until the harddrive stopped driving.
Now both have Win10, but I'm guessing a new something has come out by now.

Win 11 is out now. I am currently shopping for a new laptop for my wife and don't see anything new and up to date with Win 10 any more. It's possible to order a computer without a operating system and install your own.

I'm not in IT but have been working with PC's for some 40 years. Yup...I was around when the FIRST IBM PC came out. I consider myself in the power user category.
I would buy an off the shelf (Dell, etc.) PC with Windows 11 installed.
Get the SSD (solid state drive) version.
Hitting the ON button and 10 seconds later you are ready to go is wonderful.
They are faster and better....but more $.

For someone like me, that doesn't really care about speed, I get what's on sale.
All I do is web surfing, utube, email.
    Just the basics.

MacBooks have been my go to for the past 15 years. I’ve had 2 and bought my wife 1. They last a long time and I’ve never had a malware problem, stolen info, or any other problems. More expensive, but no frustration. I make sure they are loaded with the Microsoft Office Suite out the door.

Just bought a 3 year old Dell desktop. Refurbished win 10. Some of my software doesn't like win 11 and I have too many other pcs in the house running win 10. I spent under $400 for a pc that would be $1900 new with same cpu and setup..... get a ssd for sure, starts up in seconds. Even win10

Windows 11, it does take a bit of "getting use to it" but unless you are really computer savy, just go with it. Oh by the way Win 12 will be here shortly. Most Win 10 boxes are NOT easily upgraded to 11 (it can be done). As noted by "Fish4bugs" his advice is GTG.

PS Who is still running CPM 86 or an 8088 machine?

I have been running Linux for the last 10 or 12 years. It will run on just about anything.

I switched to Linux last year and wish that I had done it sooner.

I'm a retired IT professional and looking at Linux before I'll go to Windows 11.

I installed Linux on an old laptop yesterday to play around with and learn. I've been thinking about it for years and finally got around to it. I found a free guide called "Learn Linux Quickly" at https://bookscloud.net/?book=B088NKH6TJ to help me along the way.

I got out of IT nearly 20 years ago so I'm way behind on the new stuff. From what little I know about current tech, it's pretty amazing.

I still use Windows 11 but I'm indifferent to it. I just hate that it gives MicroSoft access to your personal info. I've turned of most of it.

Linux is good. I like it and when I have old machines which are no longer able to keep up with MS bloatware Operating Systems, Linux really does save the day.

Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition. Looks and feels a lot like windows 7 Best desktop OS for former windows users, easiest ticket to completely sever ties with microsloth.

I been years away from windows of any kind, I actually quit cussing at my computers! Computers are fun when they run good and work right.
