Broke in the Birdshead

Around sundown last night as we rode the Mule around, this “Tree Pig”messed up and let itself be seen.
Two shots of MiniMag from my new Wrangler Birdshead revolver got it down from the tree.

Nice! Saw one at the LGS (the Wrangler) but they were busy and I couldn't get my hands on it. Which was probably a good thing for the grocery money!

I have a few Wranglers; I like them.
The free spin pawl is very welcome.
Ruger should do that on all their single actions!

I made some pecan grips for the wrangler- a little rough but they work.

Good deal on the coons.....very bad actors on ground nesting birds or chicken coops. I cap them on sight, but they are very slick at staying out of sight.

Always had a hankerin" for a birdshead but never jumped. Many Rugers but all plow handle. GW

If they would just offer their new "Super Wrangler" with adjustable sights in the birdshead configuration, I'd be a goner ...

Ours usually run 8-15 lbs, and I have seen them 30+.

BTW: I find the birdshead grip appealing visually, but have been warned against for felt recoil.
How are they really?

The young adults like these show poor judgement sometimes.
Our animals don’t grow very large due to the heat. A twenty pound raccoon is “Call the neighbors” material.
It’s a Wrangler Birdshead- so no recoil. It handles very well with the 3-1/2” barrel- I’m carrying it daily almost.

We're talkin about a 22lr, not much recoil.
Now I converted my Ruger Vaquero in 45 colt to a bird's head,
the said recoil of some Ruger only loads will get your attention.
But, the mild Unique and Red dot loads I mostly shoot aren't bad.

I own one of the Wranglers also, but I bought it before they introduced the BH model.
I do have a Heritage rough rider in the bird's head grip frame, it also came with the mag. cylinder.

Yep - I got it these were 22s, but since the topic was birdshead grips, and I find that like a shiny object to a crow, I asked if you knew how they were while not stating I was referring to larger chambered revolvers.

Birdshead grip in the large frame Vaquero. Recoil with a 300gr boolit over a 30kpsi load is sorta harsh, but not really that much difference in the same load fired in the typical plowshare grip. Reason being that heavy loads immediately start the muzzle arcing upward, which actually pushes the bottom of the grip downward and away from the lower part of the palm.

30kpsi and a heavy for caliber boolit will impart about the same amount of hurt, with either grip.

My favorite kind of racoon, dead! we are infested with them locally, they are death on chickens. I caught and dispatched 12 in a few weeks last summer trying to get into my chicken coop. Nice grips you made on there also.

I had no idea what a wrangler birdshead was until I read this. I had to look them up. That is a darn good looking little pistol… and for $270!

I do have a Ruger Birdshead in 45LC but that .22 might be just the ticket on horseback for my wife.

I had to do some more reading the the Ruger Wrangler. I was impressed. Ruger is at the top of my list for firearms vendors. Not only for their products but for what they have done and continue to do for our 2nd Amendment rights!

Bill, my brother has a Vaquero Birdshead in .45 Colt and it is very nice. He bought it for Mounted Cowboy Shooting where they use blanks to shoot balloons.
The Wrangler is proving to be handy as a pocket on a shirt.
I’ve noticed the front sight is hard to see at dusk so I need to get out the Neon Green mail polish.

I did get a kick out of “Tree Pig”… had not heard that one before. I have holes in my garage from trying to get those “tree pigs” out. Pass through shots…of course!
