    Non-burning powder sub?

Those of you who make powder measures, what do you use as a substitute for BP when burning out an antler tip? I have tried sand, but it is a little too gritty for the adjustable measures I use.

I've not even heard of burning out a measure. I've always drilled, dremelled, and filed until I got the right volume of powder. I just use powder to check.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

Sorry. I didn't completely read your post before responding.

The couple I have made I used a nail and a torch. I was following what several of the self proclaimed expert on YouTube suggested.

I'm looking for something to use when burning in the hole on antler to measure my charge with. I'd rather not use BP just in case there is a hot spot that might set it off. I thought about talcum powder but feel it may be too fine. Sand was a bit too gritty. I am looking for that "Happy Medium".

    Try ground coffee.
It could be close to what BP volume will be

Thanks. With all the coffee I drink it never crossed my mind.

Corncob or walnut hull polishing media might work for you too but the ground coffee might be readily accessible.
