Springfield m/1903 Greek Lend-Lease from CMP

The 2nd 1903 Springfield I bought from CMP was this high number double heattreat with C-stock. It has the B-stamp on the floorplate indicating the floorplate was pinned in-place (since removed).

I was a little perturbed for a couple of reasons. First off, my very first m1903 rifle was a cherry 1909 rifle that looked like it just came off the production line. I paid $35 for it in 1968. So paying
$400 for this one perturbed me when I inspected it.

The green parkerizing really irked me. As did the very poor bedding of the rifle into the stock. Despite everything negative I kept this one and it serves as my only m/1903 Springfield today. I like 1903 Springfields and I especially like them in the C-stock. The original S-stock has a too-short length-of-pull for my arms. Its not comfortable with heavy loads.

A good one is to be treasured for sure. My '03 has a replacement 4 groove barrel from 1944 BUT shoots cast boolits exceptionally well. I used a Lyman 311284 (210gns) with 31.5gn of 3031.

I have one of those as well and it shoots jacketed rounds great but not cast. The bore is a little too rough for cast.

Nice rifle Dutchman, even though rebuilt they didn't swap in stamped parts in the process.

Mine is a rebuild, never had an original, prolly won't at this point. Been taking the A3 out some, the 03 will be next.

    Great looking rifle Dutchman.

That look on your face, when you shift into 6th gear, but it's not there.

Wallace nice shooting especially with open sights if that is what you used. What was the distance? Mine shoot the 311284 and the 314299 like that too. Mine I shot at 100 yards when I was younger and could SEE!!

I have a reimport that dates to 1930. The crown has what appears to be a star gauge mark but no corresponding number anywhere on the barrel. It is hopeless with GI ball and any other jacketed 150 grainers I've tried, but does well with 311284 and extremely well with 180 and 190 grain Match Kings.
