What is the purpose? If punching paper, HBWC work well.
Matt's Bullets has correct pills for 38 S&W.

Agree. Matt's Bullets to try some. Then when you get serious buy the mold from NOE.

    38S&W boolits sized361-362 for the 38 S&W

missouri bullet company sells lead bullets for the .38 s&w. that is what I run in my Iver johnson cadet SA. They are 145 grain lined round nose bullet. they also offer a .38 hi-tech coated 145 grain round nose bullet. $41.50 for lubed bullet and $47 for the hi-tech coated bullet. both are .361 diameter

The 200 grain Mk1 bullets from Matt's Bullets were considerably more accurate than regular 38 Special SWC's and WC's in my old 38S&W Victory Model Smith.

My old Victory Model is apparently regulated for the 200 grain bullet. A normal 158 grain SWC or a 148 grain WC shot way, way, too low. I did not wish to file down the front sight to compensate.

My universal source for .38 S&W stuff is Buffalo Arms. They sell cases at 29 cents each -- quite cheap, imho, and also purvey cast bullets ( https://www.buffaloarms.com/361-145-...an-361145.html ) -- not to omit their selling dies, and other goodies. I have yet to have anything OTHER than greatest experience buying from them... it may be worth a look at their site. I have both an old S&W British lend-lease .38 as well as a Colt New Police -- and these bullets function quite well in both, although I do get some leading (just enough to notice ) in the Smith. (But then again, it does have a barrel approaching sewer-pipe smoothness, or lack of such...NOT the bullets' fault.)

JoeJames if you are reloading drop the velocity of your rounds to raise point of impact - fwiw i have one cogswell conversion that shoot to same point of impact when using 3.5 grs. red dot w/158swc in .38 SPEC. + with 2.3 grs. red dot with same 158 gr. swc in .38S&W - my Enfield MK2 + lend lease M+P also are accurate with the 158 gr swc's -

    Check out Accurate 36-130E.
    I designed it just for my S&W 33-1 in 38 S&W.
I use mine at 0.363” and it shoots clean and precise.

Bear Creek makes two .38 S&W bullets: they are in the top row next to the .32 bullets.

I bought some factory lead ammo for my 33-1 just to get the brass and they leaded so badly that you couldn't hardly see the lands in the barrel after 2 cylinders of them. Sooo.. I carried it home and pulled the boolits and they were .357". Bad deal! I cast some 158 gr boolits from an Accurate mold that drops at .361 and the accuracy was really good when I loaded them as dropped @.361. I have read that the hollow base boolits will obturate or "slug up" when shot at .357 diameter but in my experience, it did not happen. My S&W 33-1 will not tolerate a boolit less than .361 but when it gets fed the larger boolits it is a very accurate little gun. Just my experience/ Good luck Terry, this is a neat little cartridge.

fwiw - yesterday i put lead slugs thru the bores of 2 NOS 5" .38 S&W victory barrels - also thru my pre victory lend lease 1942 M+P - all three measured .358 on both my Starett mike + digital calipers -

That's probably the reason you are getting the good accuracy with your boolits sized to .358. My 33-1 just would not tolerate the smaller diameter. Got to feed 'em what they want.Attachment 319235Attachment 319236 The boolit mine likes best is a Accurate Molds 36-160H and every one of my 38/357 takes to it like a duck to water.

Cylinder throat diameters on both of my WW2 S&W Victories and Terrier 32-1 are all .363 and I shoot bullets sized .362". The .38 Special soft lead 148 HBWC bullets also shoot very well when seated out to 1.16" in .38 S&W Brass with 2.5 grains of Bullseye.

My finding too - far more accurate with bullets that fit the revolver properly.

    .38 S&W more diameters

rainy day, 30 degrees colder than yesterday, dug out 1920 S&W new departure break top + slugged, measured bore - came out at .359 - pages from early loading manual coincides with what i find on all of mine [ 5 different pistols or barrels ] -
