Back about 2003; my wife an I were at a friends house in Las Vegas. The called the "High Temp at 103 degrees; while we were looking at the Temp gauge reading 129 degrees as we sat in the shade by the pool. I took a sip of beer from the brown bottle that had been sitting on the table for about 15 minutes and Burned My Lips. That is still a family story about - I remember when it was so hot that....

South of Tucson, we're finally getting monsoon thunderstorms.
Little dog Chico woke me up at 5AM to let him out before it rained.
He flaps his ears next to mine quietly so he doesn't wake up his mommy.
We must never wake up mommy.
Now it's 8AM thundering and pouring down rain.
    Smart little dog.
When the sun comes out, will be 110F and dry quickly.
    Summer in the desert.

Haven't seen a tarantula in five years.
Neighbors say they caught them all and sold them to PetSmart.
Big tarantulas sell for $30-$300, price depending if they're pretty.

Scorpions and centipedes, though, make poor pets.
I would have more if I wasn't buddies with the bug guy.
Wife doesn't like bugs, so poison the crickets, and the food chain goes next door.

Just checked: 97F light rain at 5PM
We are up on a hill here looking down at the Santa Cruz river
I can see a glorious thunderstorm two miles away putting down bolts everywhere
black microburst blowing 60mph under it.
These desert thunderstorms are fast and furious and then gone.
When they fire on the mountains, there is no putting it out.

(Did you know palm trees are an invasive species?)

One night wife was watching TV with her headphones turned up
lightning blew apart a mesquite in our backyard.
    "What was that?" she asked.
    "Just lightning", I replied.
"Thank You, Lord" I said to Him.
More wood for the fire ring.

We are visiting child #1 who is stationed in Texas. Its been a fairly consistent 103-105. Did I mention I'm dying?

Interestingly, back home in NY we've been having a heat wave, which is 3 or more consecutive days in the 90s. It's been one of the hottest July's in memory. Most of the month has been, and with it staying warm enough overnight that we run the AC continuously. That's rare, usually it will cool off over night. We also do have that miserable humidity, and I will admit I noticed the lack of such despite the heat

This weather is nothing new it is all a cycle and the sun is hitting a maximum output next year so expect it to continue . All that heat will put more water vapor in the air so more clouds will cause the earth to cool none of this is man made those that claim it is are liars!
The news is crying this is the hottest on record in 12000 years even NASA had to say enough is enough we have only taken records since 1880 !

Something else I caught in a news story the weather started reporting ground temperatures rather then air temperatures this raises the morning lows by a few degrees !

Yesterday all the crying was about a bay off key west that hit a record 100 degrees water temperature fact is it had been 98 degrees last year big deal but the fear is real!
When I think back on all the **** I learned in high school it's a wonder I can think at all ! And then my lack of education hasn't hurt me none I can read the writing on the wall.

Born and raised here in AZ. Seen it all. On our hottest record day ever, 122, back in 1991, I was on my motorcycle on the concrete freeway headed downtown to discuss a matter with my boss, even though it was my day off. The air was so hot, it would get up under my fingernails and burn, making me want to let go of the handlebars. I had to lean forward so I could turn my hands slightly backwards to keep from burning my sensitive fingernail undersides. And with such low humidity, flying at 70mph through that dry air just sucked the moisture right out of you. At 3pm, the hottest part of the day, I could only go 5 miles, then had to pull off into a McDonalds or similar place and suck down a large soda and just chill out in the a/c for 30 minutes, then go another 5 miles,...pull over again.

But like I tell all my friends back east in blizzard country, Arizona isn't really any different than where they live. Just like them, there's about 3 months out of the year you just don't go outside unless you absolutely have to. For us, they're just different months. I can't imagine living in all that white crap, and they can't understand why I live among the scorpions and buzzworms.

atfsux My father was stationed at Luke A.F.B. while I was from K-4th grade in 1966 we came to Michigan 90 degrees here felt much worse then 120 degrees there . There really is not three months here I do not go outside there are a few days it is easy to dress for the cold ice can make going for a walk or a drive a problem . I actually kind of like the white crap * .

    * A few years ago the word crap would get auto sensor here at castboolits and just show as ****
