A fun (good ) day w/ my ML

Got the itch to try something different (for me) today. I cast a bunch of T/C maxi-balls and powder coated them in black with Smoke's powder. They looked neat. Ran them through a .501 sizer and headed to the range. No lube or fiber button underneath, I shot them with 80 grains of FFg Triple Seven. It worked just fine. Thunderstorm arising kept me from any real testing, but even as is, I'd go in the woods with this load. Easy to load and best of all - no grease. I need to vary the powder load, try it over a bore button, and change the order of operation by sizing the naked maxi-ball at .501 first and then powder coating. Each change will change my outcome, I'm sure. Sure is fun to experiment.

You realize the lube bottom groove only on a maxi is meant to soften fouling ,powder coating does nothing in a muzzle loader
(been there done that) And like the Lee REAL the maxi is meant to shoot as cast (soft lead) both engrave upon loading along with the Lyman plains . I shoot in the 50 cal muzzy a Black Harvester 50x45 sabot holding an as cast 45 cal unlubed maxi pure lead ,good to 150 yds and 200 on a good day . Have a feeling you will be seeing some of those along with the 40 cal slik in a blue Harvester sabot good for 200 all day just sayin/Ed

It does engrave at loading, hence the initial push into the muzzle. The PC has added dimension to the cast. I'm still in the paying around mode and having fun.

    I have tried similar things.
I did find that using a lubed over powder wad made them shoot better
Probably just because it kept the bore cleaner or the residue soft.
    But if hunting.
You won't be shooting too many rounds to foul up your barrel.
But one difference in my testing.
I was always using home made BP not other factory powders.
