25-06 light with Jacketed

Hi Everybody,
I am working on a present for my GrandDaughter. I have my mother's Savage 25-06 and would like to work up some very light loads to go with it and give it to my GrandDaughter that is 11yo.
I'm looking at either a 100 or 117gn jacketed bullet @ 2000fps-ish.
This hopefully will give her a light load to get comfortable with as she grows up before she is ready for the 3000fps barn burners.
I have Quickload and plugged in 19 gns of 2400 should give 2000fps.
a 60% charge of H4895 is 34gns and should give 2400fps.
I'd be open to any thoughts or suggestions anyone might have.

I have two 25-06 Mausers that I built.
I have used a reduced load from the Speer #11 manual.
Using SR4759 @19.0 gr is about 1892 fps with a 100 gr Jacketed bullet.
15.0 gr gives you 1524 fps.
I have not shot these loads for a few years.
SR 4759 is not available any more.
But I now use loads with RL-7 mostly for cast loads.
But you might look into data for RL-7 to fit your needs, or look into charges for cast Boolits with different powders and use those loads with a jacketed bullet.
Another suggestion.
See if someone can make you a chamber adapter so you can fire .25 ACP rounds in your 25-06.
I have adapters for my 7.62x 54 , my .303 British , my .308 and .30-06.
I shoot .32 ACP .32 S&W , .32 Long out of most rifles.
I might try shooting some .32 H&R also.
I just got an adapter to fire 7.62x25 Tokarev rounds out of my Mosins Nagants.
The adapters are fun for plinking and small game hunting.
That might be an option to teach kids how to shoot full size guns.
I have a 3 year old grand daughter that really likes my guns.
The adapters will be a great start when she gets old enough to go shooting with me.
Hmmm.
I wonder if I can make an adapter to shoot .357 magnums or .38 specials out of my .35 Whelen.

Back when I had .25-06's, I wasn't really interested in light loads per se.

What I was interested in was light bullet loads, i.e. 87 and 100 grain jacketed. They should give significantly less recoil than a 117-120 gr load, no matter the velocity.

120's for deer always seemed like overkill to me, I never saw a Missouri whitetail argue the 87 and 100 grainers weren't heavy enough. If I were to use one for elk, then maybe.

Looks like you have the perfect reason why you 'need' to get a mold and box of gas checks.

I have a Rem 700 BDL and I have shot 75 grain bullets from it with great success. That light bullet sure won't produce much recoil at lower velocities. I have also shot 87 grain bullets with low recoil even at full velocities. Woodchucks in the bean fields hate me!

I don't have a 25 06, but a full power load with an 87g bullet works great in a 250 savage with very mild recoil.

I would look at 75 gr Hornady HP's or the 75 gr V-Max and Trailboss powder and practice on 2 liter pop bottles filled with colored water. If no Trailboss use a fast powder such as RedDot, 700x.

The noise can be more frightening to new shooters than the recoil.

Light 257 jacketed are /very/ hard to find right now. Very little on GB (without overpaying) and I raided the forums for these a month or two ago, myself. Easy to get 117's, but not so with 75-87-100gr. Another member here was also looking for light bullets for his 25-06 with little success.

So just for availability, I'm thinking 117's are the only decent option right now.

I’ve used IMR 4198 with data for .250 Savage for a reduced 25-06 load in the past.
Works just fine. The pressure and velocity listed for the .250 will turn out to be less in the 25-06 due to the larger capacity case.
