    Barrel Reboring an

Has anyone had a barrel rebored lately? It looks like I’ll be trying to have aRuger #3 carbine barrel rebored to .311” to make my dream 327 Number 3. Thanks in advance!

PS A name from an older post in another forum was Alan Siegrist. Anybody had him do work lately?

All of my Re Bores , Re Lining or Re Rifling has been done by Bobby Hoyt .
You might want to give him a call and see if your project is something he can or will do.

I know of Mr Hoyt from the work he does for various North-South Skirmishers, but I’ve never known of him doing “small bore” work… I’ll have to check that out. Thanks!

JES rebored my Marlin 30AS to 356 Winchester. Great work , reasonable and timely.

I've had rebores done by both Bobby Hoyt and JES, I wouldn't look any further than either one of them.

Unless something has changed, JES doesn’t rebore smaller than .338”
Won’t the .223 chamber size call for a relining job to become a .327?
What a neat little rifle that will be.

TbG, the barrel that will be rebored is a 22 Hornet with marginal bore offered to me by a kind fellow member of this forum, in essence a barrel blank with a perfect “pilot hole” if I can find someone willing to bore and rifle it to .311x16 or so. Otherwise I’ll have to resort to relining.

When I did my stainless 327 K frame Smith, I had it rebored in Washington (state) but that gentleman unfortunately passed away not long after he did that barrel for me. I was very pleased with his work and would have gone back to him without hesitation. Unfortunately, several of the currently active barrel specialists seem to limit themselves to larger bores.

If it was easy, anybody could do it!

Bobby Hoyt made me a lovely .25 caliber muzzleloading barrel many years ago, so he should be able to be talked into doing a .32.

Jes can do anything from a .22 to .50 , I talked to him about a .32-20 a couple of months ago I would think the only difference will be the chamber reamer.

JES rebored/chambered 25-20 to 32-20 w/ .312 bore 14 twist. Nice job. My last JES rebore is to 38-55 that shoots very well.

I stand corrected. It’s been a couple of years since I talked to him.
    That’s good news.

Thanks, guys. JES had been suggested to me, but in his website I got the impression he didn't go that small. I'll contact him Monday.

Randy Redman out in Oregon would rebore and re rifle a barrel. Will have to check and see if he is still around. Had him do several 30 cal Mauser 1896's and make them 9mm Luger.

    Would this work?

The 327 is not a high pressure cartridge. Can you find a liner the right bore and twist for your purposes? If so, a good machinist should be able to open the bore and solder the liner in place. A chambering reamer would be needed to finish the job.

    Just a thought.

Many decades ago, I went the other route and had V M Starr line a Ballard from 32 Long down to 22 WCF.

Good points, Kevin. I carried on a running commentary with Ed Harris and John Taylor and we came to the conclusion this would make a good backup plan, but since eastbank was so kind as to provide a 22 Hornet barrel, in need of a rebore, my first choice is to have a rebore done. I still have the possibility of using a TJ’s liner as a potential Plan B. If I can get the barrel rebored and rerifled to desired specs, I think that would be better than boring it oversized and buying a separate liner to insert. That 22 Hornet bore makes a great pilot hole for boring and rifling a .313” bore!

Apropos of your Ballard, my own FrankenBallard was an aggregation of parts literally gathered from all over the country. It got a 22LR barrel that came from an Ohio built position rifle from a gunsmith named Cheek… an acquaintance of mine pulled that gun apart to build a Schuetzen rifle.

    The adventure continues!
