Lantern loss to cornbread pan win

I answered an ad for a Coleman lantern being the sucker I am for them. It had been posted for a while and they dropped the price to $5 for a good looking dual mantle lantern. When I arrived to the storage locker the where they apparently work out of the lantern that was posted couldn’t be found. While snooping around the shelves looking for the MIA lantern I came across the stack of cornbread pans, we eventually came across a rusty dusty with mud dauber nest single mantle lantern. While discussing the lantern he felt bad that we couldn’t find the one advertised and I asked about the cornbread pans. His response was to “take them” for coming out and I gave him the $5 for the ugly lantern.

Not sure at this point if I need all of them but couldn’t be happier. Plus the lantern actually cleaned up real nice and works really well.

I have been watching for an old Coleman 2 mantle lattern for some time now but when one occassionally shows up for sale locally, the owner thinks he has a "gold mine" and prices it accordingly. I will keep looking though. james

Nothing wrong with cornbread pans. I have a killer recipe that uses green chiles or jalapenos. Makes some great eating...and those single or dual mantle Colemans are almost bullet proof if kept clean.

I have three double mantle Coleman gasoline lanterns. Just can't part with them. Hope to some day have my grandchildren hear that hiss as we camp out.

My Pop picked me up a cast iron cornbread form when he bought me a bunch of old Ohuas ingot molds he found at a resale shop. It was the last thing my father ever got me as he passed away suddenly a few days later. I have yet to use the corn bread pan.

Hmmm….now I’m gonna bake some cornbread tomorrow. Coleman lantern were common as dirt around here, and I ended up with a bunch.

I guess I’ve gotten past my Coleman gasoline lanterns… it’s so much simpler for me to put a propane double mantle on a hook outside my camper or if I’m in glamping mode I set up my “outdoor kitchen” I use a 20# propane bottle and put a distribution pole onto it with the lantern on top (think lamp post in your front yard).

They're cast iron molds that look like 1/2 a ear of corn. They are about 10-12" long and 6-7 inches wide.
Each one makes 6 or 7 individual servings as I recall.

Do a quickie search for 'corn bread molds', then hit 'images'. The woods are full of them.
I have a couple I actually use for corn bread.

Froggie, Thanks for the offer but they just keep finding their way to me. Between my Coleman and Kerosene lanterns I’m set for a good while. I did end up with a double burner propane model that now lives in the camper.

The lantern is post cleanup and the globe cage paint job to cover up the cleaned up rust damage to the chrome

Looks like a good haul. We call those "cornsticks". They are wonderful with a good slathering of butter.

I casted about 2,000lbs using corn bread molds. Let them sit out a few days in rain or wet them so they rust up a bit. Helps lead release.
