    That is a odd one.

More pictures from different angles, or pictures of it taken apart may be needed if someone doesn't recognize it right away.

I think it's a holding clamp for machining cases. My 2 cents.

That sure looks like an attempt at a tilting breech receiver, as was said before!

First post and you bring us something like this?

Could it be an attempt to make a push through sizing die?

I think it's an attempt at a patent infringement on a Roberts breechloader conversion. Not to worry--that patent expired over 100 years ago.Attachment 310736 (Photos from Hull's Roberts Breechloading Firearms

I agree that it is a test run on making a single shot action. Aluminum is so much easier to work with. Can make almost anything with a saw, file and drill press. But if it had been my efforts, I would have started with a wood model.

As others have said; it looks like a mock up for a tilting block action. The breech pressure would be taken up by the rear pivot. the breech face would have to look & work somewhat like a Martini action. When I saw the photo the first thing that came to mind is that it would look pleasing if it was actuated by a side lever. This type of action would be better served as striker fired than as a side hammer, but it looks like the designer hasn't got passed the breech locking yet. Overall it's not a bad idea, but machining the curved rear face of the receiver ring would require some head scratching unless this was built as a low pressure "sandwich" design, or machined from either a forging or casting. Hat's off to whoever was thinking this action up.

Looks like you found the frame for a nineteenth century assault rifle.

It is 2 or more pieces of metal bolted together.

More pictures would make it easier to have a better idea of what it was actually intended to be.
Spell check doesn't work in Chrome, so if something is spelled wrong, it's just a typo that I missed.
