    Winchester 1895 Bolt Removal

I have a Winchester 1895 that has two very ugly threaded holes in the left side of the receiver for a long-gone Lyman Model 21 (I think) receiver sight. I found a Providence Tool copy that will fit and now I need to rethread the holes to fit the Providence pivot and elevation lock screws.

Is it possible to remove the bolt on this rifle simply by pulling back the lever, pressing out a pin somewhere through one of those holes in the receiver, and sliding the bolt back past the cocked hammer far enough to expose the holes in the receiver for rethreading so the tap and threads go all the way through and the swarf and dried oil can be wiped off the inside without fouling the bolt raceway? My Disassembly books seem to skip the 95, except for Pirkle"s Collector book which has half the gun in pieces before bolt removal is even addressed.

    Thanks in advance.

Google is your friend. I looked it up to install the same sight on my 95. I don't remember the process but it is not complicated. Try "remove bolt from 1895 Winchester."
To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, the trouble with many shooting experts is not that they're ignorant; its just that they know so much that isn't so.

Thanks, Dan. Somebody on the Antique Winchester site had the same question, and it was answered. Nothing new under the sun.
