Here is a message from a pawn ship I have a link to that sells firearms. At the top of his page today is this paragraph. What is a gun brace ??

It's a support that looks like the butt stock for a AR rifle,
but is fitted to a AR style pistol with a barrel shorter than 18".

The law addresses the same thing that putting a shoulder stock on any other handgun does.

The brace, as Winger Ed says, looks similar to a buttstock for some designs, but is meant to contact the shooters forearm in such a way as to "brace" the pistol. i.e. Lessen the aiming impact of rotation at the wrist joint. Some designs look like the "butt" is split, and this clasps around the forearm.

Having no "buttpad" I always wondered how those made a person feel when attached to an AR Pistol chambered in 450 Bushmaster, and then fired as if that brace were a buttstock, as in the "SBR" that the ATFE determined these are (by interpreting the same rule a 2nd time in different way under a political administration from the other side of the isle). I think this would be rather unpleasant. A friend of a friend has an AR pistol in 450 Bush, and hence why I think of it.

If you think an administrative state agency, bloated w/ personnel and administering vaguely worded laws, is an unmitigated good, just think this through.

It is pretty much a fixed buttstock, attached to the round buffer tube on an AR pistol in a way that it does not move forward and backwards. Supposed to be used to keep e.g. an AR pistol stable in the hand when shooting one-handed. The ATF "decided" that some (not all of them...) are designed to take a pistol to the shoulder when shooting. Now, the problem is yet another idiotic ATF definition that anything you shoot from the shoulder is a rifle. So, when using these pistol braces as a buttstock and shooting a pistol from the shoulder, it makes it a rifle. Now, if your crazy thing has a barrel shorter than 16", this makes it a short barreled rifle, which requires a registration as NFA item and (typically) a $200 tax stamp payment.

While I 100% disagree with all the nonsense the ATF is constructing to build an environment that follows the political believes of their master, I take this latest nonsense as an opportunity to add some SBRs to my NFA collection without having to pay the $200 tax stamp. Plus, it allows me to put a foregrip and a real adjustable buttstock on my AR pistols...

The ATF generated a letter that said even if braces were shouldered, they still didn't qualify as a short barrelled rifle. Those Youtubers were following federal guidance. The ATF brought this on themselves.

Not really, if you read the rule/law, only 3-4 pages long....a brace is basically whatever the ATF says it is. Plus, that which was legal before the 31st, is now illegal, and the law is retroactive in its effect. A bunch of court cases coming, no doubt at all.

Potentially by the stroke of a pen, the ATF made about 4 million felons out of law abiding citizens. No, I did not miss that many chose to push he envelope, but, in the US, the law and people have a long history of such things.

One must always keep in mind that the ATF rules take the form of Law and as with the IRS, noting an ATF agent says verbally or in writing will protect you later in court, nor can they be held accountable for anything they say.

Of course disabled folks that need the brace due to their disability are exempted.

Think of the brace rule as a synonym or substitute if you will, for any other rule in their playbook, such as what constitutes a C&R. There is no lower thing than someone going back on their own word when the other party has already expended time, money, and effort to play by the rules.

No. At least not for now. Government has learned that going too far too fast gets the public aroused and rebellious.
They - most"liberal/progressive/socialist/Democrat" politicians - will continue to settle for useless smaller steps until we, the "little people", are basically rendered impotent. Then they think they'll be able to use government guns to totally disarm the last of us with American backbones.

Libs love freedom restrictive laws. The self-described "better people" will indeed come for your single shooters, for our own good of course. That will come as the final attack after it's made clear that their previous (designed to fail) "common sense" step-by-step legal attacks on private firearms have proven unable "to control gun crimes."

Liberal politicians already know their restrictive laws don't/won't do anything about crime but they will eventually declare they "have to do something" more about gun violence; their real goal has always been to simply disarm us. They and their lock-step "news media" propaganda wing have long exploited and used criminals to justify their new laws.

So, it's not yet time for them to come after your TC now but you can depend on it, they will. After whatever temporary delays liberals may have to face, they will, an inch at a time, remain determined to safely disarm us, just as they masculated the British before their common robbery and murder rates went way up!
