Shooting lee 230 45acp boolits from 50 cal fast twist muzzleloader

I recently bought a used Knight inline 50 cal and wondered if I could find a sabot that could shoot them. I've always been a round ball shooter in the past and have never used a saboted round. I already have the Lee mold and plenty bullets all ready to go.

Shooting lee 230 45acp boolits from 50 cal fast twist muzzleloader

I use the Harvester green ribbed sabots in my 50 cal ML. Works great
I’m not sure about your boolits though. Someone else should comment on that.

If I remember correctly, a 28 ga, shotgun wad, cut off to leave a solid base, leaving the pedals in shot cup, to act as the sabot,
    will work, in a .50 inline ?
I went to a lee .50 real bullet in mine or a mine ball.

You are incorrect. A 28 gauge MIGHT work in a 54 caliber. Shotgun wads are so inconsistent though you would be wasting your time. Buy real sabot's. I wish you could get 12 gauge sabots as cheap and easy as you can get 50 and 54 caliber sabots.

Any 50 caliber sabot for 45 caliber bullet will work here. Some possibly better than others.

You can, but will likely only group well with lighter loads due to the fast twist.

I have had ok performance with the Harvester RCR (red crush rib) with 200g .452 swc. They are the only 451 cal sabot I am aware of.

I use the Hornady 50 caliber Sabot low drag with 45 caliber SST 250 grain bullets in .452 and are very accurate for my CVA rifle. The sabot's are supposedly made by MMP sabots for Hornady.

They have all sizes of sabot's and MMP's. website is https://mmpsabots.com/.

For the last 18 years I shot only patched round balls. My eyes got bad and had to go to a inline with a scope. Good Luck!

I use my Lee 45's in black sabots (forget the brand) in my Traditions Pursuit LT with a 28" twist barrel for practice/plinking (don't hunt). They work just fine at 100 yds. and are pretty accurate.

As mentioned above, go to MMP site to get bags of their sabots.
