As in melting the rear end of the projectile? Hadn't thought of that.
Actually from gas blow by. The wedge shape of the base seems to increase the effect. Boat tail cast lead bullets have been tried without much success, even with specially made wads to support the tail.

I thank you gentelmen for your input. I haven't been casting or shootin' cartrages for more than a few years. I know what end the boolit goes in, but that's about as far as it goes. I've read Paul Matthews books, and have been shootin front stuffers for a long time. But, this is a new critter. Again thanks.
