100yrs old and never fired a jacketed bullet?

I just picked up my savage 23b and when I cleaned the barrel I found no indication of copper. Even sweets 7.62 returned no blue on the patch. I plan on keeping up the tradition!

32-20? Mine was the same when I received it…looked like the barrel was new from the factory.

25-20 barrel was bright and shiny under a coat of powder fouling.

I've had my 1895's for over 30 years and confess that there have been a very few J words through them BUT I have never fired a factory load down their bores.

Same with several of my antique Winchesters. Each one I bought years ago never showed any greenish blue when cleaning the bores and I keep the tradition by loading them with lead only!

My 32-20 was really rough, rusty and abused on the outside, but the inside of the barrel was perfect. Probably never had anything other than lead down the barrel and the coat of lube is what protected it.

Father-in-law had several old guns (1890-1930 vintage) that would never show a trace of blue on a patch. He only fired jacketed bullets in them. He just made sure they were 'squeaky' clean when he put them away. I ended up getting him hooked on cast bullets in the 1980's. After that they were all loaded with cast.
