    Revolver smiths

Does anyone know of a solid revolver smith that can do things like cut grooves to install drift adjustable sights, or do trigger jobs (PROPERLY)?

I hesitate to send it to a big name as I kind of want to get the thing back withing a year or two.

    Thanks.

Is this for a Colt or a S&W? For a Smith, it might be cheaper to swap parts. For a Colt, good luck on your search.

Good luck in your search. The woods are full of parts changers these days, but most true gunsmiths have passed on.

Talk to Andy Horvath. He has been doing excellent work on revolvers for decades. He converted Skeeter’s 357 into a 44 S&W Special and built this S&W Model 25-2 for me.

You can see the shortened barrel and rounded grip frame. He did not do those. What he did was to recut the grooves in the back strap, convert it to double action only and give it an action job that truly has to be felt to be believed.

Cylinder & Slide just did a dovetail front sight on a 1911 slide for me, perfect fit, profile and blueing match; got it back in about 8 weeks but they ain't cheap.

Most real gunsmiths can cut dovetails without an issue. I wouldn't fret having a local smith do it. Trigger jobs are a little more open ended. Some gusnmiths only work on S&W, some only work on Ruger, some only work on single actions, and some just aren't that great at triggers.

I've never heard one bad thing about Ahlman's gunsmithing for this kind of work. They used to be pretty reasonable on turnaround time, and prices look inline too.

Bowen referred me to Mr. Horvath for some frozen side plate screws on a Smith. Decided to just live with it for now.

While we are at it, is there a shop that currently does re-nickeling without buffing the logo and stamping off a revolver and getting it back to the original finish? I have a 29-2 that is tight and accurate but it has been carried a lot and has finish issues on one side.

I had a new hand fitted and installed last year by Andy. His work was quality and priced right. I told him to take as long as he needed, it was ready in two weeks.
