I recently came across some Win 244. Want to use it in 41 magnum with MBC 215 coated. Anyone have a successful load worked up for this?

The burn rate of 244 is almost identical to Alliant Unique, you could use that data to work up a load.

Thank you my friend!
Would anyone concur with a load range of 6.4-8 grains of 244 in 41 mag given its similarities with Unique. (215 hard cast 18bhn coated).
Not a lot of data out there to work from, but it appears to be quite a bit faster than Unique. I'd start at 5.5 grains and work up to no more than 8.0. And I'd be carefully chronographing each rise in powder charge.

I show 244 as nearly identical to unique on burn chart. It also shows minimum charge of 8.5 for 44 magnum 240 lead. If i reduce to 80 percent of 8.5, i end up with 6.8. (80% is average resuction in comparable fast powders from 44m to 41mag. I fear 5.5 would yield squib load. Where am i going wrong?
I should mention that i desire to stay near 25000 psi so as not to lead barrel. So far i have tried titegroup and AA9 with terrible inaccuracies. I have ordered Win 231 and have that as back up. Wish i could find unique.
Burn charts are nearly useless in determining powder charges. HS-6 is allegedly slightly faster than Autocomp, and both are quicker than CFE Pistol, being 40, 41 and 42 on the latest powder chart that I have. Yet the max charges listed by Hodgdon for the 44 mag 225 Grn Speer JHP, are 11.6 grns of CFE, 11.8 of Autocomp and 15.5 for HS-6! Were I to blithely say, "Well HS-6 is safe at 15.5 grns, so my CFE will be safe there, too," I'd be risking a 25% overload.
In the 44 mag, the 244 burns faster than 231. With a 220 grain bullet, equal 9.4 maximum charges yield just about 10% less pressure with the 231. I'm guessing here, but I think the 41 magnum will have a similar relationship. They show 8.6 grns as a max load for 231's twin, HP38 with a 210 Hornady max load.
So I would think that 8.0 grains of 244 is right on the lip of too much, but probably not over. Your lead boolit is 5 grains heavier that the Hornady bullet. And we have no 41 mag data for the powder in question to draw inferences from. I would stop at 7.0-7.2 grains, whereever I got good accuracy and little or no leading.

I appreciate the input and your logic. I will start in the 6ish range and work up cautiously. Since this is for target practice/ joy of shooting in Missouri Ozarks, accuracy is more important to me than power. Thank you. New to site and i must say that I appreciate all your input. God bless!
I got reloading data for 244 from the Hodgdon reloading website for loading .380 ACP, .45 ACP & 9mm and just starting to work up loads for 244.
Welcome Crs7079 to the forum, are around Springfield MO?

OK, I see that now, odd that there is data for the .44 mag and not for the .41mag.
6.0 grs of 244 with 215 gr lead. Work up. In 41 mag. My best guess after using in 44 mag with 250 & 215 gr cast.
Ioon44. Yes. Republic Mo. 10 mins from Springfield
I think i agree. 6 is good starting point. Work up until groups are tight and stop! Thats the plan.
Ioon44, you going to Tulsa gun show on 12th? Im going with a large group from my church (mens trip). Always worth the trip!

I must admit. I see 244 as considerably slower than 231.
hopefully find something I can’t live without. No, I shoot on my property.
