Where can you find 8.15x46R brass, found a nice 1871 Mauser sporting rifle.

Anybody know where I can find dies, brass, and what size the bore would be. I know I need to slug it to find out exactly. This rifle has the peepsight missing, but still has the barrel sights, nice case and decent blue with good sound wood. Wanting to know how much it is going to cost me to set up and shoot it.

The case is near to the same as 32/40 Winchester and any brass could be reformed to that specification. Boolits will be 0.321" or 0.322" and any tight 8mm mould could be made to shoot.

I actually use a Saeco 190gn 8mm sized to 0.323" in my own 32/40 Highwall.

If memory serves, you should be able to make cases from regular 30-30 brass. Way cheaper than buying the 8.15x45 cases. Frank

All right now, thanks guys. I have a 32/40 with a 190 4 cavity accurate mold, and a ton of 30/30 brass. Dies will be all I need.

That sounds very interesting, Sam. Text some pics to me when you get a chance and I'll post them. All the rifles that I've seen(at gun shows) in that chambering were built on 98 actions.

When I owned my Aydt in 8.15x46R I used mostly cheap .32 Win. Spl. brass run once through my C&H4D dies, and they fit perfectly. What mold or bullets yours takes will only be determined by slugging the bore. Most use a smaller groove diameter than the typical .32 caliber rifle bore and mine was a .317" groove, so I used ,318" bullets in a 180 gr. mold. Many people state these rifles need to be fired using stop ring bullets only, but that wasn't what I found for mine.

Well guys I drug my feet and when I called to have him hold it till I got there, he had already sold it. Oh well, I learned a lot from the posts, and will keep my eyes open in the future. I have a 32/40 and dies, have made brass from 30/30 so it would be pretty easy to make bullets, and I already have the molds.

I've seen RWS brass on a discount rack ages ago but 30/30 or 32 win sp brass probably easier to find and cheaper. PPU makes a lot of odd ball ammo they might make 8.15x46R.

Or............. If you are a masochistic machinist you can turn down the rims on 303 british and a few dozzen other steps.

    Here's an interesting thread
    https://castboolits.gunloads.com/sho...x46R-Schuetzen.

IO bought RWS 8.15 x 46 rimmed about three years ago - don't know the availability now.
