    scoping a 30-40 Krag

Has anyone scoped a Krag using the S&K mounts shown on Youtube? Is there a better way, but I understand the receivers on the Krag are hardened and difficult to drill and tap.

I'm not familiar with the S&K Krag mounts. Do they place the scope forward of the receiver over the rear sight, scout-style? Traditionally, Krags are scoped with a side mount which involves drilling and tapping 3 holes on the left side of the receiver above the side plate. The receiver is not particularly hard to drill at that location.

Hmmm...it appears to grasp the front of the receiver ring and hold fast by a screw in the magazine cutoff hole, which would draw the front end back tightly against the receiver ring. Looks hefty, unless it's aluminum. It's always been my opinion, doubtless not shared by many, that the Krag is a rifle that is just not meant to be scoped. Holes are forever.

i have 2 sporterized krags, one has a 102k Redfield aperture sight and the other has no sights. i've been thinking of getting a s&k sight for the no sights one.
