    Glock Feed Problems...

    Hey Guys & Gals

Been some time since I’ve been on the site—Sometimes Life gets in your way

    Anyhow, this concerns a Glock 26…5th generation…9mm

I am not shooting cast, but I thought I still might get some help

I am loading 124 FMJ with 4.0 grains of Tite Group
(It also does the same with 115 grain HP Hornaday HAP bullets)

Some will chamber and fire, but some just start up the feed ramp and stop part way up

They are as data shows in the Speer manual

    Any thoughts

    Thanks

    BCB

Not finding your recipe but think your loading a little lite. Alliant shows 5.0 PP with 147 and 6,7 with 115 gr, Both Speer Gold Dot bullets GW

Same. Max load with power pistol with 124 grain bullet is 6.4 grains at 1157 fps. With a 115, the charge goes up to 6.7 grains or 7.1 grains depending on bullet. Your load definitely seems light and is probably the reason for the malfunction.

? Does the slide lock back on an empty magazine. If not, there isn't enough recoil energy generated by your load to reliably cycle.

Always check lockback on magazine for functionality. It may eject but if not locking back, conditions are not optimum for cycling.

Also, I check loads over chrono just to get an idea of what is going on. If max load is 1150, I probably don't want to be slower than about 900fps.

If you want a mild load that will still function, try a faster powder. 3.8-4 grains Titegroup is excellent in all my 9's including Glocks.
    Currently casting and loading: .32 Auto, .380 Auto, .38 Special, 9X19, .357 Magnum, .257 Roberts, 6.5 Creedmoor, .30 WCF, .308 WCF, .45-70.

    You are correct--my mistake

I was using 4 grains of Tite Group

I did up the load a bit using 5.0 Power Pistol and things are looking better

I'm gonna try the Power Pistol with the 115 HAP bullet and hope that works also

    Thanks...BCB

Hmm, 4 grains Titegroup runs great in all my 9's with every boolit I've ever tried. I wonder if the gen. 5 needs more recoil to function than the older ones did?

That could be the case. Or it could be a new gun that just needs to be broken in a bit. I bought a new Walther PPQ and it would choke on reloads that ran fine in a number of pistols. After a couple hundred rounds through the gun it runs OK on reloads that had previously caused issues.

No recent experience with the 9mm, or the newer generations of Glocks.

Does the gun function with factory loads? Does it malfunction with all magazines?

I've only shoot a few factory rounds--Ain't got many!!!

But I upped the pressure a bit and she seems to be doing good now

I think with a bit more umph behind the bullets, all will be well

Check your taper crimp. Case mouth should be .380". Sounds like you may be too wide?

Also, make sure your elbow and wrist are locked out. I've seen Glocks "whiplash" in the hands of folks who are too loosey-goosey on the gun, causing the stack of cartridges to rotate case-head-downward, creating an angle not conducive to proper feed.
    WWJMBD?

In the Land of Oz, we cast with wheel weight and 2% Tin, Man.

    Off the Hodgdon website:

Their saying 4.1 gr is max load.
I load 4.2 gr under a 115 RN for target shooting and see 1050 fps. Actually its a fairly easy shooting load. But then none of my 9 mm’s are Glocks.
BCB, is this a new pistol?

    It is a new Glock

I know that firing a few rounds will likely help

i did get it to cycle fairly well with Power Pistol

I started with Tite Group as it worked well in a little Kimber

You would think being a RN, a FMJ should feed well. Unless the slide doesn’t recoil back quite far enough to pick up, or allow the mag time to fully present the next cartridge. My Glock-sense is extremely limited but I’ve had lower power loads in new pistols stop the slide when the subsequent cartridge projectile becomes wedged against the top end of the barrel. Just surprised because 4.0 TG doesn’t seem to be a low power load. Not to in any way disparage your reloading abilities but are you sure the 4.0 weight is accurate? No unburnt TG powder when you clean right?
If so and COL is correct I’d chalk it up to new-pistol-with-strong-recoil-springs syndrome. Should work itself out as things break-in. Just my opinion.

How many rounds are through the pistol so far? The 26 has a shorter and stiffer recoil spring than the others and could need more break in. 4 grains Titegroup approximates most factory loadings. If the gun won't eat this then you may have an actual problem.
    Currently casting and loading: .32 Auto, .380 Auto, .38 Special, 9X19, .357 Magnum, .257 Roberts, 6.5 Creedmoor, .30 WCF, .308 WCF, .45-70.
