    Half-Jackets

Is there an effective way to create and apply a half-jacket to a cast rifle bullet? I was just wondering about this. It seems like the process would be similar to gas checks if the half-jackets were available.

Half jackets are meant to be used in a swaging press. There's more to it than just seating them like a gas check.

The half-jackets are available and a core can be cast from pure lead in a core mould (eliminates the use of caliber correct Lead Wire) but the final half-jacket projectile must be assembled/formed on a swaging press with a swaging die . They make effective ammo .
Speer used to make a line of half-jacket .. in 357 magnum and 41 magnum they could be Awesome on the expansion !

I loaded up a couple of boxes of those Speer bullets and kept them from use. Good thing they are labeled or could be considered a normal boolet, after loading.
