    .50 BMG cast bullets?

Has any body ever loaded .50 BMG with cast bullets? I was thinking about having a mold made to cast a 700-800gn bullet and try it.

No direct experience doing it but I would think that at the velocities reached you are going to have to deal with a lot of leading of the barrel and bullets coming apart from the centripetal forces. Maybe use lead on the harder end of the scale?

Just conjecture. Be sure to post your results as I'd be interested to see what happens.

You can paper patch to full velocity.

Have the mold made 9 thou under for three wraps, or 6 for two. The bullet must have a few grooves to grip the paper.

Seeing as it's just lead go heavier, 8 or 900 grains depending on your chamber.

Try NOE bullet molds. Might want to call and see when another production run is/will be scheduled. See:

I was thinking about having the mold cut to use a gas check for a .500 S&W, I know it would be .010" under sized but it should help in leading the bore. does any one make a .510" Gas check?

I have a close friend with a Barrett 50 BMG and he has set it up for cast with an 800 gr. boolit from an Australian mold. It shoots quite well a 100 yards. I wish I could remember what powder he uses. He hopes one day to take it to the Nevada Cast Boolit Shoot but other activities got in the way for the last couple years.
